I'm getting collection calls on my new phone.

I just bought a new wireless phone and got a brand new number with it. Unfortunately, it’s not brand new to the world as I’ve started to get collection calls on it for another person. I’m thinking the wireless company didn’t wait long enough before re-using this number as the person that just had it had bounced a check last week with my number on it. Ugh. I called the autobody company up and let them know that Mr Paine’s phone number just became mine last month.

The one problem is, it was a bear to get a number in my area code (there are four local area codes where I live) and I need it to stay in the 651 area code so I can use the security code on my apartment building. (It dials up to my phone and I hit 55 to buzz a person in. It’s only able to be programmed for 7 digits). When I set-up the phone, it took almost 2 hours for Cingular to find a free phone number in the 651 area code and I’d hate to go through that again, but it sounds like I might have to.

Any other ideas on how to take care of this?
