Anyone want to join me? I’m starting from base headquarters, running up to the gym, then onto the dirt all the way down to 10th street, then back to headquarters. A little less than 3 miles. I’m hydrated, and I’m heading outside to stretch.
I’ll be doing the same in about 6 1/2 hours. Of course, I won’t be running in 29 Palms. And it’ll be about 5 and a quarter.
Here’s to fleet feet and a good run!
Its raining, and I ran the last 2 days. Just getting back to it after taking a couple of weeks off due to shin splints. So I’ll take today off and run tomorrow.
What time you doing your 3 in?
I’m aiming at a 4-mile race 7/4.
I’ll be doing my daily run in about 45 minutes. Today is light day, so it should be 4.5 easy miles. Although I find that I can never really take it that easy, I get bored.
You didn’t ask me Dinsdale, but I do 3 miles in about 25 minutes. Maybe a little less if I’m racing. My goal for this year is 21 minutes for a 5K.
You sound a bit faster than me, A.
My problem with timing my regular training is I don’t have an exact distance for my route. So the best I can do is compare each run to past runs.
Last year I ran this 4-mile race in 33:42.5. Hope to do better this year.
holy crap…
well I was thinking about running about 25 yards or so today…
jk… I wish I could run for a few miles… but I get a terrible pain in my shins… I try to get in about a mile a day… but sometimes I am only able to get 3/4 of the way there…
then i switch to onw of the other cardio machines at the gym… and I am good to go for a while… but running kills me…
I got the best thing ever for that problem Dinsdale. It’s the Nike SDM Tailwind, a little pod that laces into your shoes and measures the distances. Works great, very accurate, tho a bit pricey at $125. OTOH, there’s not much else to spend money on if you’re a runner, except new shoes once a year.
Well I made it back, shins are hurting a bit, but not too bad. Ended up doing ~ 3 1/4 at about 7 1/2 minutes/mile. Saw a coyote, I think he was laughing at me. Time for a shower, get back in uniform and then head down to the NCO PME.
$125?!!!
I don’t think so.
But now I’m curious - how does this thing work?
Stride length? Couldn’t be accurate.
GPS?
Please use simple words when explaining so this technology-challenged lawyer can understand.
It’s an accelerometer, innit. You can get a GPS thingy - Timex, I think.
I may go for a run a bit later, though since moving to the Land of the Doughnut I have reduced my running frequency from every day to once every 10 days or so. Viva lard!
Timex GPS will run you a bit more than $125. Unless you can find one on eBay or something, it will be around $200.
But IMHO, it’s been worth every penny I spent for it.
Yep, it’s an accelerometer. Some Canadian company patented it (interesting read, but technical). If you think $125 is steep, the one that sends the data to a watch is about double. Pricey! I envy you Scout - the GPS unit is sweet.
Today’s run was 3.23 miles in 27:14. 8:25 min / mile. So the precision is good for something at least.
Like I’m supposed to know what the fuck an accelerometer is or does?
LMAO…that’s ok Dinsdale, I don’t know what it is either. I have one of the Timex GPS watches, it cost me $154 with shipping. Let me know if you’re interetested, and I’ll hunt down the site I ordered from. I also have heard rumors that Timex will be coming out with another module that goes along with the GPS, so that you can monitor your heart rate, and download all the info to a computer after your run. Supposedly, this new system will be backwards compatible with the existing Timex GPS watches.
Glad to hear your run went well WillSantini, I ended up taking yesterday as my off day. Since I hate running with a passion, it takes a lot more effort for me to get those runs in. Today is Tempo day…oh yea
Measures acceleration. Wahey!
Fitsense already have a combined distance-measurer, HRM, computer-downloader, teasmaid and cuddly toy. It isn’t GPS, and has the advantage that the watch looks like one of the props rejected from the orginal Star Trek.
When I bought the Timex, that’s what they said. So far they have yet to do it.
Then someone told me that they’d called customer service and was told that they couldn’t do a heart rate monitor add-on (can’t remember why). So the legend grows…
