I'm going to DUBLIN!!

A couple of you may have seen my thread inquiring about the train situation in England. I was planning to go up to Birmingham the morning I arrived at Gatwick (this Thursday) then come back the following day. After trying and failing to arrange transport to Birmingham, I looked up fares from Gatwick to Dublin forthahellofit and discovered that it was cheaper to fly there that it would be to stay in London for the two nights.

So off I go, first time to Ireland! Now I’m trying to get the numbers of my family’s friends who live in the south part of Dublin, but can’t reach my folks…but no matter. It’ll be all right on the night!

Yay, I’m so excited! I’m gonna tour the Guiness factory, and go on a pub crawl, and find Phil Lynott’s old house, and catch as many live bands as possible, and…and…
runs off rubbing hands together gleefully

Oooh, ooooh, ooooh! Do you have a big suitcase I can hide in? Please, please, please, please, please!!! I need to get to Dublin!

Have a great time, though, even if you don’t take me!

Evilbeth, have you been there before? Hmm, there must be something special about the place, you’re the 3rd stowaway request I’ve had! winks We’ll think of something…maybe you can sneak thru the turnstiles when I go through…oh hang on, that only works in subways! Drat.

I’ll keep thinking!

When exactly?

Maybe we can meet up for a pint or three.

Dublin is superb. Never have I seen pubs like that. Big, classy, music at decent levels, the right stout, and, my GOODness, the women!

P.S. yojimbo!! How did the interview go?

Waiting for the taxi now to bring me to it. Had a lot of stuff to do this morning because of moving.

Oh joy, Coldfire, I do love a good smoooooth stout! Which pubs did you like best, or did you see so many that they all blend into one warm fuzzy experience?

yojimbo, I’m going to be there this Thursday and Friday, and leave early Saturday am. My flight gets into Dublin at 11am and I’ll have a few hours to kill before one of my friends gets home from teaching school. Was planning on spending some of that time looking for a decent but cheap hotel in the city centre. Any recommendations? I’m also trying to contact a friend whose family lives in the south of Dublin, but all I have is his email, and he may not have computer access right now. I know he works in an ice cream cafe in the city centre, and plays bass in a blues band but both those things probably abound! grits teeth in frustration
I also just emailed you, hope you don’t mind. (since I leave tomorrow - Wed. the 20th - in the afternoon).
But it would be great to have a Dublin Dopefest, even if it’s just a party of two!

Take care,
Beth

P.S. also sending good wishes for the interview.

May I suggest Mother Redcaps

Rock-n-rolga, there were so many great pubs, it’s hard to remember.

Yojimbo may be of assistance though.

  1. The pub we went to at the start of the Literary Pub Crawl. The Duke?
  2. The pub we visited during and after the literary pub crawl. O’Neils? That one was beautiful.
  3. 10,000 other great ones.

Honestly. But all that is Dublin, I know nothing about Ireland outside Dublin. Well, I know Murphys is brewed in Cork

Woohoo I got the job  :: does a silly dance ::

I am going out with work on Thurs. but Friday’s free. Twistoffate and I were talking about going out for a pint Fri. so we can hook up with you if you e-mail me and I’ll sort something out.

The Avalon Hostel is good and on the net ( do a search ). The last dubdopers stayed there. I’d offer my couch (already broken in by clogboy) but there are people staying here at the moment.

Coldfire you got all the pubs right btw

Yay, you got the job! applauds Now there must be a meet-up, since we have several reasons to celebrate:

  1. You are now employed
  2. I’m in town
  3. Hi, Opal!
  4. C’mon, it’s DUBLIN!

Ok, this is the last post before I leave for the airport. In less than 24 hours I’ll be strolling beside the Liffey, wearing a Thin Lizzy shirt and trying to decide which interesting pub I should try next. Will give full report on this (and subsequent jaunt to Sweden if anyone’s interested) on my return!

Cheers!

Have a fantastic time, Beth! Colour me envious!

The Avalon is a good place to crash, but it can get noisy. Don’t forget your earplugs.

A girlie who likes Thin Lizzy. HHmmmm very interesting

Looking forward to it RnR. Give me a call.
