Yeah? Well, I went to Hawaii, and you didn’t. So there.
Where will you be staying? I spent 10 days in Kihei, on Maui. Beautiful weather. Road a bike down Mount Haleakala, sailed and got once-in-a-lifetime views of a whale and her newborn calf, went snorkeling, and lounged. It was wonderful.
I spent the summer of 1984 in Hawaii, and have plenty of opportunities to go back now. My father was stationed at Schofield Barracks on Oahu at the time, and he lived in Wahiawa. Factors which mean I can go back at my leisure now:
He met his wife in Hawaii, and her parents live in Kailua. She was born in Morocco, but spent nearly her entire life in Hawaii before marrying my father. Her parents’ door is open to my wife and me.
The company I work for owns four condos at the Kaanapali Alii on Maui. They are available to employees at well below market rate.
I haven’t yet been back, but we’re going for our tenth wedding anniversary next year. Have fun, Steve-o!
