Ah, holidays. Me & girlfriend and Umberto Eco.
Two weeks, including a few days on Ihla Grande down the coast.
I am expecting:
Lovely food.
Comfortably warm weather and no little sunshine.
Amazing photos.
To get mugged once. No big deal.
I will be disappointed if:
It’s cloudy most days.
My camera gets nicked.
We get mugged by the police.
And no, I have not just done a bank job.
I’d recommend Porcao for dinner one night. A little pricey, but you can eat grilled meat until you split like a sausage yourself.
Woohoo-you lucky dog!
I loved my brief excursion to Brazil and remember Rio vividly even 'tho it was several years ago.
I never got mugged although I did have a rather disconcerting incident involving a drunken woman and a hunk of broken glass.
Some one in our group was pick pocketed but quite frankly, he was an asshat and deserved it for not listening to the advice that he’d been given.
The beach was wonderful.
I spent a day lolling on Copacabana feeling mighty decadent.
I had my very own beach boy who provided me with a beach chair and procured drinks and nibble lets all afternoon. (For a very small fee, of course)
A friend of his specialized in rubbing you down with your choice of suntan lotion and then sprinkling you with water to keep you cool. Ahhh…the life of leisure.
After a couple of Cachaça’s and a skewer of shrimp, I became the living definition of relaxation.
Check out the Feirarte, formerly known as the Hippie market, on Sunday.
I found some interesting souvenirs there.
Also, do the tourist thing and go to the top of Sugar Loaf via the bubble cars.
It’s a great ride.
The food was fabulous too-especially if you’re a carnivore.
Have a great time-I’m more than a little jealous.
Many thanks for the advice, all.
And gouda, you live in the most fascinating country I have ever visited - the envy is all mine (except perhaps for the next fortnight!).
Flight leaves soon - byee!
