I'm going to the opera for the first time

It’s been a year and I was gifted to a ticket to another opera. The last one was a delight and I was really looking forward to this.

In 2007 someone adapted Elmer Gantry into an opera. It’s a great story and I was really looking forward to it. Sadly, I hated it an left at Intermission. The sets and the costumes were great. The actors voices were great as well (to the extent that I could tell).

The adaptation was shit. The whole thing was in standard(?) operatic vocalization. What a missed opportunity. It should have been traditional gospel and Grand Ole Opry. The opera regulars seemed to be having a blast so I guess it hit the mark for the intended audience.

Maybe next year will be better

Re-watching Gotterdammerung, Siegfried death aria: Yep, checks out.
