Tomorrow. Fly out of Melbourne Thursday morning, arrive in Las Vegas (after a stop at Brisbane and LA X) on Thursday Morning. The plane actually arrives at LA 5 minutes before I leave Melbourne. (That little titbit shattered one of my sons mates, he could not get his head around it )
Looking forward to the trip. First time in the USA, plan to be pretty much Vegas bound for a week but assuming all goes well I’ll come back again next year or the year after and spend longer and move around a bit.
One thing, tho: next time, consider coming in March or April or October or November… by the time you get here, the days will have cooled off and only be about 40ºC (104ºF). That’s down from a little over 43ºC that we’ve had most of the summer. Night time temps might even be under 27ºC. My point is, the 4 other months I mentioned are much more pleasant, temp-wise. There’s stuff to do here outdoors, too, if you’re into hiking or rock climbing or jet skis or fishing or kayaking or mountain biking, but even us locals don’t go out much during the summer months, certainly not to exert ourselves recreationally.
I hope you have the Pinball Hall of Fame on your list; that place totally fucking rocks!
The Atomic Testing Museum is quite interesting. I paid it a visit when I was in Las Vegas about a year ago. Now, I need to visit the Pinball Hall of Fame. With luck, I’ll be able to visit Las Vegas again in late September.
I just spent a few days in Vegas last week. Are you planning on going to any shows? I can personally recommend Penn & Teller and David Copperfield, and there are free rock concerts every night on Fremont Street that are usually pretty entertaining if you happen to be in the area.
If you’re really not afraid of heights, you can try the Skyjump off the Stratosphere tower - an 855-foot controlled freefall that I’d count as the scariest thing I’ve ever done. (I have video.)
I didn’t get to the pinball hall of fame but did get around plenty.
Fremont St at night is unreal. Did the zipline while I was there.
Chopper tour out to the Grand Canyon flying back into Vegas on sunset was brilliant.
Did the Mob Museum, visited the Heart Attack Grill (burger is pretty stodgy), discovered Bloody Mary’s as a breakfast drink and frozen margaritas for lunch.
Quite enjoyed walking around in the 110 degree heat in shorts and a singlet and despite no hat or sunscreen I barely changed colour. The sun just didn’t seem to have much sting in it.
Only saw one show, Absinthe on my last night. Wow. That was a ripper.
Overall, had a blinder of a time and I def will be going back, although next time I’ll be trying to avoid Delta airlines.
