I'm gunna ask again, how do i make reasonable money quickly? With minimal experience?

So, i just found out both my friends (ages 18 and 21 respectively) both landed FULL TIME jobs in portland oregon making 12-20$ an hour respectively. Both of these kids have similar experience to me (working minimal level jobs) but yet their situation is tremendously better then mine.

How do i get a full time job in general? As well as something higher paying? I understand a lot of the folks on here are older and have the " you gotta work reall realll reall hard and if you’re lucky you’ll get a nickel!" mindset but i know for a FACT there has to be some shortcuts as these kids are living breathing proof and i’ve seen evidence of them making this much as well. They don’t have any kind of degrees or anything.

My friend got a job 20$ an hour managing an apartment complex. His friend is working at the same apartment they live at as a janitor making 12$ an hour full time and a reduction on their rent as well.
I live in spring hill fl. The job economy is not good. Most people scramble to jobs at like mcdonalds. One position for a frycook will have 150+ people apply and that’s for a 20 hour a week 7 bucks an hour job. Also, in florida the minimum wage is 8 an hour. Not enough to live off of. In portland i believe it’s 10 at least.

All of this in general is simply not cutting it for me. Both of my parents are extremely old and on top of me having medical debt i need a way to be able to make a lot of money for sure quickly and fast. Like they are. Also, i can’t just move to where they live because not only does that not gaurantee me a job but it also is not possible, seeing as i don’t have the money to move or support myself in a different state.(yet)

I might come off as rude here, but understand that i’m very upset and unhappy. Also, all of the previous answers i recieved were not helpful. To be honest.

“Get a certificate, after 2 years you can make 12 an hour”

My friend has no experience (little) and because they liked him he’s now managing an apartment complex. He’s smart and charming though. So who knows.
You all can’t seriously tell me there are NO POSSIBLE WAYS IN EXISTENCE i can make money full time and for sure get hired somewhere (in some field) that isn’t incredibly difficult to get into? These two are living proof.

Have you heard the term “shake what your momma gave you” ?

I don’t understand the job market. I’ve been in IT approaching 20 years now. Sometimes I start thinking I’m past my prime or some youngster is going to come and do what I do cheaper or better.

Then I need to call support for something. I foresee future “techies” tapping icons on their ipads wondering why they can’t mount a share or connect to a host.

Right, so how many apartment complexes have you visited to apply for similar jobs?

If I knew a SUREFIRE GUARANTEED way to get a FULL TIME job, I sure as heck wouldn’t be spouting off about it on a messageboard for free. Think about it. If there were an obvious and highpaying unskilled job waiting around the corner of Everywhere and No Experience Necessary, everyone and their kid brother would jump on it.

Some people fall ass backward into good jobs. It sucks when it’s not you. Since you’ve learned that apartment complexes can pay good wages along with rent reductions, why not look at complexes around where you live?

Older men; public parks. An easy $10 right there.

If you can’t get a job at McDonalds, or waiting tables, or being a janitor (always hiring on Craigslist), or delivering pizza (A job that is ALWAYS hiring and desperate for people, I made $13/hour there), you will have to couch-surf in a city with more opportunity. Tons of places around here are hiring bartenders full time. You could make 50K a year.

Wear clean, pressed clothes (no jeans) to every interview. Make sure your resume has no typos or misspellings. Smile a lot.

The unemployment rate for the Tampa area is only 5.1%. There are tons of jobs out there. You might have to drive a long way or take a bus to get to some of them.

The oil-well industry is crashing right now, so North Dakota’s out, but I bet you could easily get a job on an oil rig in the Gulf, or anywhere there’s a major fishing industry.

You could also join the military.

If you’re strong and fit, you can be a day laborer.

I’m not sure why you are expecting to get the same results as two people in the same place on the opposite end of the country, when you are admittedly in a city with such a bad job market that people are having a hard time getting a bad, part-time, minimum wage job. It’s not the same situation and the reality may be that you can’t make a lot of money with little education or experience. Frankly, it’s not a realistic expectation in most areas. Your chances are even lower if you aren’t willing to relocate.

Frequently it has to do with who you know. Maybe your charming friend got his buddy in, especially if he’s managing the place. If you don’t spend much time networking to find job connections, now is the time to start.

It sucks to be told that you have to actually work and put in a lot of effort to get something solid, but… yeah, you probably have to. You’ll set yourself up to be miserable if you expect or feel entitled otherwise.

If you’re willing to live in Alaska, finding work is easy. Fast food usually pays 10+ an hour and opportunities are available for strong young men to make much more if they’re willing to work on a commercial fishing boat. Good paying jobs also exist on the oil patch but that’s harder to come by now that oil prices have fallen so much.

someone with your qualifications would have no trouble finding a top-flight job in either the food service or housekeeping industries.

So uh, anyone live in portland wanna let me live with them?

I swear i’m a decent human being with a lot of heart and i’ll be respectful. I’ll come with money too so i can buy my own food and help out when i can. Of course when i get a job i’ll pay you whatever is necessary.

:D:D:D:D:D

I heard there are a TON of downsides to living in alaska like they have gigantic mosquitos and it’s away from basically everyone except tourists.

Go though a temp agency. Think about it - their whole business is finding jobs for people (OK, finding people for jobs, close enough). If the don’t find you something right away, keep calling them back.

And if you are any good at the work you’re doing while working thru the agency, it’s very possible that you will get hired directly by the place you were working at. Happens all the time. This is the ideal plan for people who can do the work, but for some reason don’t interview very well.

Step 1. Leave Florida

$12-$20/hr in Portland isn’t a living. Rents in the city are very high: the unimproved small house across the street is going for $1100/month. A decent apartment in the city will start around $700/month. You’d likely end up trying to find people to share a place somewhere out in the far eastern part of Portland. The job market is tight and you’d have a tough time competing unless you just want to work fast food or other service jobs. If you have restaurant experience as a server, you can make pretty good money at it in the better places.

Around here?

I mean does anyone have any suggestions for any places in florida in general that have a lot of full time opportunity jobs? Even for mcdonalds?

What about specifically places near me? Someone mentioned tampa florida. I’m sure a lot of you don’t know florida, and that’s fine too.

What about states CLOSER to florida? Georgia? South carolina? Texas job market? Booming?

I heard working on an oil rig in the water has a high fatality rate doesn’t it? Or am i confusing that with a different job? Isn’t that an absolutely awful job? Won’t i be exposed to a lot of carcinogens if it’s on an oil rig? Pass the fuck on that then. Not trying to be picky, but unless i’m making 6 figures i aint about to get cancer for a job. I’ll go homeless!

Where the hell were you making 13 an hour as a pizza boy? Was that including after you deducted money for

No, it’s really good money.

It’s full time. Three of them living together making that much 40 a week.

Plus it’s in a one bedroom. One is couchsurfing. Other sleeps on the floor. Their total bill for everything not including food is about a grand. One of them can make that in a month, if not a bit less.

are you just saying that based off what i’ve said or is the job market really bad in florida?

Of course there are downsides to living in Alaska. That’s why the pay is high. There’s no such thing as easy money.

clearly you are WRONG

Hence this post.

Again, there are NO WAYS IN EXISTENCE for me to get easy money or a job that’s not complete ass that’s full time you’re telling me?

I usually clear $15/hr delivering papers and I work 35 hours a week. I also usually have a second job but right now I’m holding off on that. But I’m a single mom with two kids, so you’d probably have to pay more in self-employment taxes than I do. Still, it’s work and it leaves your day free to have another job or to look for something that works better for you.
Around here, home health type agencies are always hiring companionship caregivers. Pay rates vary but it’s a busy field.
ETA: Neither of these jobs would be “easy.” Carry on.
