Im having trouble following up on your report.

I read your report titled “Did the U.S. plan an invasion of Canada in the 1920s?” and found it to be very informing. My dilema is this. I want to find the documentation on War Plan White, Green, Grey etc…

I really want to read further into this and keep hitting a wall when doing searches. Can you give me a hand?

Thanks for your time,
VM.

Did the U.S. plan an invasion of Canada in the 1920s?

See The Defence of the Undefended Border: Planning for War in North America 1867-1939 by Richard A. Preston, published in 1977. Although Plan Red and earlier, less developed, plans for Canada are his primary concern, he also discusses in brief some of the other color plans and the military planning system that produced them. I don’t own a copy of the book, but according to my notes, this topic is discussed primarily on pages 218 to 228, give or take a few.

It is my understanding that all copies of most of the “color plans” were destroyed as they became obsolete, so the full plans aren’t available. As far as I know, Red is the only one we have the text of. Parts of Plan Red was deemed useful for fighting a naval war against any enemy in the Atlantic, so it was kept on file even after the plan itself was declared obsolete. It was declassified and released to the public in or about 1974. The text (or what is purported to be the text) of Plan Red can be read here: http://www.glasnost.de/hist/usa/1935invasion.html I can’t vouch for glasnost.de, but their document does seem to be in accord with what I have read about Plan Red in reputable sources.
