No, you shouldn’t have to scroll to the end to reply. There should always be a floating button on the right side of the thread that looks like a curving arrow – click on it, and it lets you post a reply.
Beats me. I can’t even figure out if I’m logged in.

Present! Seems pretty sweet so far.
I thought it happened to me about half an hour ago (when I saw a mysterious message saying, “hey, how about you create an account?”) but I’m pretty sure that was due to opening a thread link a new tab. I was still logged in on the original login tab. I think if you click on a link to somewhere else on the board, it displays on the same page, unlike our old site, so I forced an “open in a new tab” in Firefox.
As GESancMan discovered, you can have a display name (when mousing over the avatar) that’s different than your username.
So I’ve landed. Not sure how long it will take to figure out how the new platform works. At least no time outs. 
I enter with few expectations; this is one of the few actual message boards I regularly frequent, so I really have little idea of what’s new and hip and such.
We’ll see how this goes.

Click on your avatar in the upper right. This brings up a sub-window that should show your user name. Click on that, then on preferences. You should see a menu on the left that includes an “Emails” option. Click on that. This will bring up a window to control your email preferences. One of them is, “Send me an email when someone quotes me, replies to my post, mentions my @username, or invites me to a topic.” I set this to “never.”
You may wonder how you’ll know when someone has replied to one of your posts, or posted in a thread you’re following. When this happens you should see a digit next to your avatar that tells how many unread replies or posts there are for you.
We’ve beamed down to this strange new planet. Nothing makes sense. I’ve sent crewman Kowalski to investigate, but he hasn’t reported back for hours.
