I’m double-here. My phone could reach the site soon after it went live, but it took until a few hours ago for the DNS change to reach Hughesnet.
I made it eventually. Needed a helping hand from the awesome @AdminModTubaDiva for which I am very grateful! Now to find my way around…does anyone have a map, or maybe a spare boy scout and a compass? 
There’s now a “Straight Dope Light” theme that looks closer to what we had at the original site. There’s also a corresponding “Straight Dope Dark” theme.
But consider Sam’s Simple theme as well. The thread list page is less cluttered, and it includes the plain text user name of the OP and the user who made the most recent post.
I still prefer the posts to not be all floaty. I like them being boxed in, so even though I appreciate the effort of a SD theme, it’s not quite enough yet to make me change to it, and I’ll stick with the Material Design Theme for now. Let me know if the SD themes change it up or they add more.
Maybe there’s a repository of them someplace and I can recommend one or two. I’m sure they’ll listen to me, I’m important, right? Right? Sure I am.
I like the delimitation in the Material Design theme, but if you look carefully, Sam’s Simple show a thin grey line between posts. Sam’s Simple give me most of what I expect from this experience.
If Discourse people created a version of Sam’s Simple that included the post delimitation in Material Design, I’m sure many users would get thrilled. Kind of.

Despite my announcement of the Straight Dope Light theme, I actually prefer the Discourse-classic theme. Delineation between posts is much clearer.
I don’t have a mouse, but a trackpad.

I don’t mind the change. I’m already starting to get used to it. Funny, my avatar turned sideways.
I’ve been using Dark, so I just tried Straight Dope Dark. The only difference is the page header, with its blue background and “it’s taking longer than we thought” tag line.
I have email notifications set up, and was surprised to see two posts on the old board in there this morning from people using Hughesnet who were still able to post on the old board. Clicking on one of the posts of course brought me to this board instead with a version of a ‘page not available’ message.
Or Material Design Theme; though I’m trying the Straight Dope Light right now, as it makes the posts scroll bar easier to see.
There’s quite a few threads discussing how to do things; I’d try starting with this one.
(I don’t know why the post is showing a line about threads you’ve participated in, I didn’t put it in there and don’t see it in my edit window.)

I’m in and trying to learn it. Just a random quote to see if it works. 
Very slowly getting familiar enough with the new “look and feel” to know what I’m doing and how to do it.

I’m embarrassed to admit that I had absolutely no idea this change was coming. One day I tried to log in and “this page no longer exists”. No clue what my email was when I first joined, 20 yrs ago, or whenever it was.
Mods: I used to be plain old WOOKINPANUB. I would just as soon drop this new account and go back to that one but I don’t know how to do that.
