Well, I’m not exactly here for the best reasons but I am here.
My husbands aunt is passing and we came up to lend support and be with the family.
Not sure how long I will be in town or what is going on really right at this moment.
We left Davenport at 9pm sunday and made it here by 3am monday with five children and three adults crammed into a mini-van of fun!
You know I thought it was a joke when I woke up yesterday and it was snowing in Iowa but it has done nothing but snow since we woke up here this morning.
But it is pretty and I do love snow, and I don’t have to drive in it so I guess it’s okay.
If you’re looking for some danger mixed in with good aerobic exercise, I’m sure I could hook you up with the Action Squad.
Have you been to the Museum of Unusual Medical Devices (or something like that) yet? I haven’t made it there yet on my yearly trip to the cities.
Unfortunately, Wikkit, I think that that museum has closed. The guy who owned the museum donated most of his collection to the Science Museum of Minnesota in St. Paul. I believe that they are planning to display it there, but I don’t know if the display is set up yet.
The Science Museum is worth a visit, though–with or without Questionable Medical Devices.
…note to self: Move Nekkid Twister Party to Kricket’s empty house…baby oil NOW allowed…tarp no longer needed…no longer need to BUY booze.
Thanks Dave I knew you would take care of things at home for me.
Well, crap. I was looking forward to going there this summer.**
I didn’t think so, but I may not have seen all of it.
Is it always cold and grey around here?
I got up this morning and the sun was so pretty and bright and now it’s turning grey again.
Where are all the MN dopers??
I’m in suburban St. Paul until Friday afternoon.

I’m at work, and then at work some more, and then sleeping, and then at work, and then working, and then sleeping, and then working, and then driving 400 miles out of this godforsaken state.
Right when this April Fools’ snow melts, no less…
Hope you enjoy our state. I’m sorry I can’t be more hospitable this week, though.
She can come back for PorkDope.
You too Robyn.
As much as I’d love to spend a nice June weekend in Minnesota getting away from the misery that is South Texas in the summer, I can’t due to travel restrictions that late in pregnancy. In any case, the flight to Minneapolis was kinda uncomfortable. We’ll have to make it another time.

Wikkit, have you visited the Science Museum since it moved to its new building (Dec 1999)? If you haven’t, you might want to give it another shot. The new building has a great view of the Mississippi River and a lot of new exhibits, including a real tugboat. The cafeteria is much, much, much better now, and the Omnitheater is bigger and better than ever, too. It does take an entire day to see it all, though. I’ve got a membership there because my kid loves dinosaurs so much. If you’re lucky, you can watch the paleontologists working–there’s a glass wall that lets you see into the paleontology lab.
I know what you mean about the Museum of Questionable Medical Devices, though. That was a real highlight of the St. Anthony Main area (still one of my favorite areas of the city, though.)
Yeah, I was in there last summer. I can’t really quantify why I didn’t like it, I just didn’t. I may have been in a bad mood that day. I spent about an hour there. I had to sit in my car for half an hour waiting to get into the parking ramp, which might have pre-disposed me to being unhappy. I was also alone, which isn’t much fun.
It is a neat area. Nicollet Island isn’t far from there, which is a very unique little island, and the tailraces are just downstream. I haven’t had a chance to explore the area of foot yet. Perhaps I’ll do that this summer.
