Of course they aren’t. The site is a huge ripoff. But so long as people will write for free, businesspeople will let them do so. It’s capitalism, baby.
The bit about the Huffington Post ripoff scheme is a bit of a hijack, so I’ve started a thread over in Great Debates about paying for blogging if you’re interested. You can find it here.
Whether or not I feel the OP was fairly compensated, she did do a great bit of writing and I don’t want to detract from rewarding her for it with congrats!
That’s a great article, congratulations! I’m not a parent, but I read my brother’s blog (Doodaddy), so I’m a connoisseur of the genre. ![]()
Congrats!
Thanks much, y’all. I appreciate the kind words.
Great job! Congrats!
Got another one up! (OK, that sounds vaguely sexual.)
That is so cool!
I loved both of the articles!
I’m deathly curious though how did you get published? Send in a pitch? Know someone? Sleep with someone?
Met one of the editors at a blogging conference.
Damn! You on a roll!
That first article was really good. The Facebook post about moms stalking their kids out of “love” gave me chills because my mom was exactly like that.
Great article, and you are 100% right about that Facebook thing. The friends of mine that post it are also the ones who never seem to post a picture without the whole smiling family, or how proud they are of their child’s achievement in dance or softball or monkey wrangling. And of course some of the pictures and posts are genuine and lovely, but some of them - especially combined with the sheer volume of them and the complete eclipse of any shred of their personality not child related - just screams desperation and “we’re smiling, right? I’m doing it right aren’t I? I’m winning at being a mother!”
Loved the article, in case you couldn’t tell.
