I'm in Vancouver... What to do?

I went to Vancouver for a week on my honeymoon last year about this time. My wife and I had an excellent time and wish we could go back.

We enjoyed the aquarium, though as I recall it wasn’t quite as big as I expected it to be. We also took a horse carriage ride around Stanley Park, which was entertaining.

The Capilano Bridge and the Treetop Adventure are must-sees, in my opinion, although I’d save it for a sunny day if there will be one. I’m quite envious of the people who live in the condos overlooking that.

You might not be in a position for a romantic dinner, but my wife and I went to the top of Grouse Mountain and, having no skis, had a wonderful dinner instead. You may even have the foresight to wear something nicer than a hoodie when you go up.

I would avoid the “See Vancouver” card or whatever it’s called - the tourist pass card that gets you into various places. Half the time it didn’t work, and at the Anthropology museum, they tried to charge us full price because their machine was down. So we ended up paying more for the card than we would have for the attractions individually.

(An interesting aside: Many movies are filmed in Vancouver, so visiting may ruin them for you. I was watching X-Men 3 this morning and the office tower for the evil lab was actually the Sheraton Wallcentre, and the tower behind it was the condo tower where my wife and I stayed! Which made it hard for me to believe it was in San Francisco like the filmmakers wanted me to.)

If you make a dinner reservation, the tram ride up the mountain is free.

Just keep in mind that as far as I know, portions of the seawall are still closed after the storms, so it’s possible to do some of it, but not the full circuit.

Another possibility for getting down near the water is Kits Beach/Vanier Park, or further west to Jericho Beach and Spanish Banks.

I also highly recommend The Drive (Commercial Drive) - it’s a really fun neighbourhood.

At any rate, have a great time in Vancouver!

I went to the Gastown area yesterday for a bit. I went up the Observation Deck in the Harbour Centre. I had lunch at a Brewpub and then another pint at an Irish pub back in Gastown. A nice day overall.

Today I visited Stanley Park. Wow. What a gem: the sights, the smells, the bonding with nature, the pint of beer at Prospect Point! Just marvelous.

I’m back at work tomorrow and then back to flat, cold, boring Ontario after that. I love Vancouver!

PS - You guys have the best road manners in the world here.

That’s a joke right?

(Takes Skytrain to work because Vancouver drivers scare the crap out of me)

Not a joke at all! Come to “tailgating, red light running, I can’t see you merging” Ottawa if you want to be really scared. Vancouverites (?) are very well mannered on the roads.

Seconded. Thats the first I’ve ever heard someone say that.
