Yes, it seems that, since I am on Christmas break from school, it’s back to the dregs at good ol’ Pittsburgh Magazine. I interned here over the summer, and get to do it for five more days this break! Huzzah!
Highlights of last summer’s employment included factchecking an entire restaurant listing section (8 pages worth of phone numbers and addresses), discovering choice vacation spots for my advisor (no joke), and, my personal favorite, an article on vegetarian dog biscuits.
I’m two hours into my first day back, and the fun’s already begun anew! First, I have to deal with all the weird looks I get from the other interns cause I’m only a high school student. It’s not my fault that I’m the only non-college aged intern at the mag! Why do they all give me the same look, over and over again! <ahem> I’m better now.
Also, I got two new article assignments. First, a listing of pet care classes in the Pittsburgh area, which isn’t too bad, except that it’s gonna be a bit hard to fine. But then, I get to do a “Corporate Culture” piece on air compressors. Wheeeeeeeeeeee. So far the only interesting part of the “Emglo air compressors” website is the list of employee names. This company employs such characters as James Gindlesberger, Thomas F. Handyside, three generations of the Yoder family and, my personal favorite and everybody’s buddy, Bat Tron Trang.
(Disclaimer: Any resemblance of the aforementioned names to the names of fellow Dopers and/or their families, friends, etc. is purely coincidental. Please understand that I mean no offense by singling them out, but instead am trying to keep my sanity by finding interesting names on the site.)
But, I can’t complain too much. I mean, I don’t have to do this everyday, and probably don’t have NEAR the workload of most of you guys. Still, just thought I’d share my experiences thus far. I guess it’s not that bad, afterall, cause without working here this summer, I never would have discovered this board, and all a yooze delightful people.
Eek! Gotta get back to work!
