So … the Democrats are Batman and the Republicans are the Joker?
You doubt that McNasty knows? This guy is known for some of the most dirty underhanded tactics in Washington. Of course he knows.
Just ask Governor Mofford.
It’s interesting to me that Obama’s approval message is at the beginning of his ad, and McCain’s are at the end of his ad.
Does it make a difference? McCain’s a war hero and got a higher rating in my book from the get go. Still not voting for his ass, though.
Please enlighten me to your train of thought of this.
I think it’s more like Black Man! and the Geezer.
It’s interesting because it portrays personality. Obama wants you to know right up front that you are watching an Obama ad. McCain wants you to know it’s a McCain ad after you’ve watched the ad.
Ain’t gonna happen. The MSM is above all else a profit making venture for a very few people. Obama’s a populist who takes such things as antitrust and antimonopoly laws quite seriously and as prez he’ll be in charge of the FCC. The Bush deregulation which allowed an unprecedented level of consolidation in the media to a very few companies is something that’s quite likely to get broken up again and the heads of ClearChannel, et al are sweating bullets. They WANT a rich, in the pocket, bidness as usual politician in office and they’re doing everything they can to downplay Obama and talk McCain up. They give McCain leeway with the most horrendous gaffes, up to and including Mark Helperin of Time opining that “Housegate” is the worst possible thing that could happen–to Obama! I mean really, WTF? Turns out it’s because Obama’s jumping on that idiotic statement by McCain “opens the doors” to ads about Rezko and Ayres. Jeez Louise, those are such non-starters it ain’t even funny, and it’s amazing that anyone could say such BS with a straight face! Here’s a DKos diary with the video linked in it.
For some additional fun, check out the interesting conflict of interest that Ron Fournier, AP’s Washington DC bureau chief, has with the McCain campaign and how it’s affecting the “journalistic detachment” of AP stories regarding the presidential campaign.
Aside from the FCC issue, these huge media conglomerates absolutely do NOT want a president in the White House who is committed to making large corporations and rich people pay their fair share in taxes. Obama will get rid of the gigantic and unwarranted tax cuts Bush has been handing out like party favors for the past eight years and the CEO’s know it–so they very carefully spin the news and selectively choose what they will and won’t make into a story. They ignore McCain’s temper , his medical history, his PTSD symptoms, his memory lapses, his lack of knowledge of technology and the internet , his bizarre commitment to warmongering at any cost, his lack of any diplomatic skills whatsoever, his lying and flipflopping and the ridiculous “I was a POW!” defense he trots out every time sombody points out how ludicrous he is. By any reasonable definition John McCain is completely incompetent to be president… but you’d never know it from the MSM. They know which side their bread is buttered on, and they know who’s likely to hand out the butter and it ain’t Obama, who’s getting the overwhelming majority of his funding in small donations from huge numbers of regular people --not big chunks o’change from lobbyists and corporate interests.
Luckily Obama is computer, internet and multi-media savvy and is using the new technology like a rented mule to get his message out and to point out the dichotomy between what’s actually happening and what the media wants people to THINK is happening. We’re seeing a real and important watershed moment here, when the MSM loses the spin process because they can’t control the voices and the information the way they used to do. It really pisses 'em off, too, that’s why you see all dismissive attitude about “left wing bloggers,” with not even a scintilla of acknowledgement of the irony that every single MSM outlet now supports their own bloggers–because that’s where the real stories are getting out and that’s what people pay attention to.
Usually, the candidate approves the message at the end of the ad when it’s positive. They approve it at the beginning when it’s negative. You’re less likely to associate the candidate with the negative message that way.
I’m guessing the poster who made that observation is in a red state, where Obama is running mostly negative spots and McCain is running mostly positive.
And McCain just pulled the "I had no house for 5 years’ shit on Leno when Jay asked him how many houses do you have. Dude, you’ve had a week to go count 'em.
Congrats Voyager! You just gave birth to a bumper sticker! I’ll send ya a cut of the profits.
Well, that’s not entirely an accurate analogy…Henry didn’t survive his plane crash…
The bus to hell, I can wait for it here?
I’m not sure how popular the Statue of Liberty is with some Republicans. If he serenaded it, they’d probably figure he was welcoming those damn illegal aliens. The huddled masses yearning to breath free are supposed to stay in Mexico, you know.
Noun. Verb. POW.
I haven’t seen many positive McCain ads and I always see him approve it at the end. Also, I think that if the name is at the beginning of the ad I associate it more with the candidate. Of course, I generally see the ads specifically to watch the ads and not because they are randomly on TV because I FF through commercials on my DVR.
Remember a couple of the McCain ads from a few weeks ago that consisted entirely of shots of Obama? When I first watched those, I didn’t realize until more than half way through that they weren’t actually Obama ads and the disconnect was offputting. Saying the “I’m Barack” line at the front makes it clear from the outset who’s ad it is (especially since every following shot is of McCain).
Can you find and link to one of these?
The One This one didn’t confuse me so much because of the over-the-top narration.
Celeb is another one without a single shot of McCain until the “heroic” chin-up shot at the end - which reminds me of one of the funnier moments from the otherwise bland “Swing Vote”.
And finally we have Dr. No
Question, two of those “ads” don’t have the “I’m John McCain” tagline, but say they were paid for by the campaign. Isn’t it now required or is that just on TV ads?
Here’s a rather lovely piece of video I found while I was looking at those.
ETA: That heroic chin-up shot of McCain is just dreadful. He looks so much better in just about any shot I’ve ever seen the man in; I can’t imagine why they chose that one!
ETAA: McCain wouldn’t know a nuanced position if it smacked him across the face and sang “You are my Sunshine!”
sound of police siren
Arizona State Trooper: Senator McCain, do you know how fast you were traveling?
McCain: When I spent five and a half years in a cell, I wasn’t able to speed.
sound of partner sighing
Cindy: John, that was just pathetic! I didn’t come once!
John: When I spent five and a half years in a cell, I wasn’t able to touch a woman at all.
(Okay, I’ll join Annie at the bus stop now.)
