I'm looking for resume ideas

I have had health problems for years. Diabetes, liver and kidney failure. It’s been 2 years since my transplants, and I have recovered sufficiently to work again.

I’ve made up a resume with the statement that I’m attempting to resume my career. But my experience ends in 2001. I need suggestions on how to spin a resume and cover letter that wont get tossed immediately.

Any suggestions? Does anyone need someone with experience in computers and sales?

wow! no replies. I guess I’m doomed.

I don’t really see the problem. Explain your situation, there’s not much else that needs to be done.

You don’t state your gender. If you are a woman everyone will assume that you took off to get married. It’s still a sexist world out there.

You might find it easier to start back in sales. I’m just speculating that a 2001-2013 gap in computer work (even if you kept up) is going to work against you.

Well, experience in computers which ends in 2001 is not going to be very appealing. Experience in sales maybe more so.

If you need to do a resume, you need to show specific instances of how you have kept your computer skills up to date. But I think it will be a hard sell.

How about using your sales experience to sell yourself? Find some good potential customers (employers) understand their needs (in this case the product is you) and use your sales skills to get your foot in the door. If you can get them the slightest bit interested then say

“I know I’m superficially damaged goods, with a long period out of work. But I got you interested in me anyway. That proves I can sell a lot of stuff for you.”

And go for decision makers, like you do in sales. Avoid HR at all costs - they’ll bounce your resume in no time. In fact, don’t even give anyone your resume until you make the sale.

That is about the only strategy I can think of with any chance. Good luck!
