I'm losing 10 pounds in April. Anybody else in?

Sorry I’m late. I’m in. I seriously need/want to lose more like 20 pounds, but baby steps…

Sami41, 5’10", 166lbs, 4/1/04.

BTW, I’m a serious milk drinker. I don’t mind NO fat milk, but it has 3 times the carbs as whole and low fat milk. Which one should I be drinking? (Please tell me I can keep drinking milk). ~S

I’d like to join. I hope it’s not too late.

5’6" and 173.5 lbs as of yesterday.

I’m eating low carb and concentrating on eating foods that are as close as possible to their original source. Fresh vegetables and fruit, meat, seafood, nothing that needs to be processed to make it edible. More of a paleolithic, hunter/gatherer thing.

I’m currently doing the Body for Life workouts but since my eating hasn’t been in line I haven’t really lost anything. I go to the gym 6 days a week. 3 days cardio, 3 days weight training.

I’d like to share some items from another board where I’m a member (www.thinner.com a low carb site)

Scale weight is the least acurate measurement of fat loss. We would all do well to use the tape measure and the fit of our clothes to measure as well. Dogzille you may still be losing fat but if you’re working out and gaining muscle the scale won’t move but your body will be more fit and smaller. Truthfully if you were the size you wanted to be would you care what the number on the scale was?

Consistency is key. Even one cheat day a week is enough to derail progress. Trust me, I know.

If you’re looking for a way to keep track of what you consume check out www.fitday.com or www.lifeform.com. Fitday is an online software you can use. Lifeform is software that you can purchase (there is a 21 day free trial) that is a more elaborate tool.

That’s about it for me.

I weighed in at 194 lbs. last night. 184, here I come!

why don’t you drink 1% milk? it has the same number of carbs as whole milk (11 grams per serving) and only 2.5g fat per serving. Some places even sell 0.5% milk with 1g fat per serving, but its hard to find that. Also the carbs from milk are very very low Glycemic Index at roughly 25. So you are taking a tiny amount of carbs that are very low GI, so the Glycemic Load must be minor. I dont think it matters much. Besides milk is high in protein and calcium, both of which help you lose weight.

Are we meant to be weighing in again today?

Yep. And with real units, not snort stones.

Well, 143, 2 pounds down, but I think it’s kind of a cheat. Didn’t eat much yesterday and had lots of water weight hanging around til I got The Big Dot. (aka my period, in my ten year old’s terms. Sorry for the TMI, but it 's relevant.)

Weigh-in today: 364.

Weigh in this morning: 212. Down a pound.

OK, Thursday I weighed in at 172.5 so that’s 1 lb down from Wednesday

I’ll be weighing today at lunchtime when I go to the gym.

So, who’s exercising and what are you doing. I’m just curious. I’m on my last four weeks of the 12 week body for life workout then I’ll be looking to change my routine. I need some ideas.

I dunno. Today’s Friday the 2nd. Is that week 1? we haven’t been doing this for a week yet. Should the 9th should be week 1, 16th week 2, 24th week 3 and 31st week 4?

I guess I’ll give this a whirl. Ripped some muscles two months ago and want to get back into shape for next hockey season. Need to drop 25 pounds but 10 will be a start. Rehab has been great so now it’s time to get serious about getting back to a playing weight.

If it’s not too late:

Greenback - 5’9" -> 225

That was exactly my conclusion too, however, the most rapid loss of weight is typically in the first week or so, so maybe we’ll all have something to show for it.

I need to weigh myself tonight a couple of hours after dinner (I know that’s not ideal, but that’s when the original weight was taken). I haven’t wavered at all from my regime and I do feel a little lighter and thinner, but that might only be psychological. Time will tell.

208 as of last night, down 2 pounds already. I’m quite sure it’s water loss though as all I’ve done so far is cram less food down my gullet and go for a couple walks. Work was busy as well though with lots of loser laps up and down the stairs. I’m still confident I’ll lose 10 lbs of real weight by the deadline.

I fell off the low carb wagon last night. My honey and I went to Roadhouse for dinner, thinking that I could just get a steak and broccoli. I ended up eating a roll, 1 slice of a cheese quesadilla, chicken tenders, and broccoli. Ugh. I’m back on this morning, though, so hopefully my little cheat won’t hurt too much. I felt so guilty afterwards, I don’t think it will happen again.

If we’re weighing in today, I’m at 170.

Poop! I forgot to weigh myself this morning, I’ll have to post any progress tomorrow. Check-in on fridays sounds good to me, even if this first week isn’t exactly a complete seven days.

Dogzilla, I can’t see what you’re doing wrong, unless you’ve got more calories sneaking in than you think. The log you’re keeping is great, my nutritionist friend advises this for all her clients. It’s a bit of a pain, but great for spotting problems. I never knew how much I snacked between meals until I wrote down every mouthful! Also, I try not to eat within four hours of bedtime. It helps keep me from even contemplating snacks and no sleeping on a full stomach of ‘wasted’ calories.

Another place where calories can get you is portion size. Barbara had me estimate tablespoons, cups, etc. and I was actually dishing out at least double what my diet recommended.

I’m far from an expert on such things, but 850 calories seems waaaay too low. Better to eat enough to fuel the machine and then keep at all that good exercise you’re doing. Slender looks like heck if it’s got no muscle underneath, anyway. And congrats on quitting smoking! Yay Dogzilla!

Disregarding our posts where we originally stated our weights, I think this should be the initial check in with the next four weeks being our progress reports.

With that in mind, I’m down to 289.

I weighed in today (went grocery shopping early) at 131.5. Either I lost 1/2 a pound since Monday, or I just weighed myself before I ate lunch!

Turns out, I don’t really snack between meals. I’m eating enough whole and raw foods to be very satisfied so 3 squares and maybe one bitty snack (seeds or nuts) before bed (about 8 pm) works out just fine.

This week, I’ve done yoga every day for 40 minutes, but really didn’t do the walking. Just bored with my route. I’m watching portion size (I was never big on multi-portions unles we’re talking about mashed potatoes!) and no eating after 8:30 p.m. I’ve averaged about 1100 calories a day this week.

Oh, and as of 5:15 p.m. Eastern, today, April 1, 2004: I have been smoke free for 21 days! Thanks, Ashes for your support and encouragement. I’ve been posting all over these boards about quitting smoking and you’re the first person to acknowledge my accomplishment. Thank you.

Todays weigh-in: 204 pounds! :frowning: up 2 pounds, not a good start. Dang!

Today I weigh 68,600 Scruples, which is equivalent to 196 pounds - 3 pounds down! Yay!
