171 - down 3 lbs (which might be water).
For those putting on weight, if you just started exercising you are probably putting on muscle faster than you are talking off fat. Just keep it up and the weight will go down.
Off to a good start - 222 (down 3 lbs)
Might just be water, like Star Was said, but I’m digging it…
Pick On…
Don’t get too excited about weighing too often either. My weight fluctuates a lot, depending on how much water I am retaining. If you wiegh yourself every day, or twice a day, you can go nuts. I stick with fat percentage because I always Increase wieight first- for a sickly type I can glom on extra two pounds of muscle in no time. Its just so hard to get more then that, while losing fat. And its always in my quadriceps instead of my tripceps and pectorals, where I am trying to build it. Latissimus dorsi would be cool, too. For the sake of your sanity, don’t let the cat near the scale- our old cat Moe would put his paws on the scale when I stepped on.
hmm…I may play. I’m 5’2" 140lbs.
I went to the doctor on Saturday (yes, my doc has Sat. office hours – long, irrelevant story) and stepped up on the scale, even though I’d posted my weigh in weight the day before. I had been to my doctor just a couple weeks shy of 90 days ago, and my weight then was 132. The needle on the scale at Publix has not moved from 132 since then. And if you’ve been reading this thread, you’re also at a loss as to how someone could strictly diet and exercise daily and not lose a thing in 3 months. Well… I know why:
The scale at Publix sucks. It could even be faulty, but it clearly needs calibration.
Because my weight at the doctor’s office on Saturday was 128!
I’m pretty convinced that I did not lose 4 pounds over night – I’m sure that happened over the last three months. So I’m losing at a rate of approx .75 pounds per month. Not the rate I think I should be at, but I’m happy just to dip back under 130. Please put me down at 128, thankyouverymuch!
My stomach is flatter already (most of my excess seemed to be about the waist) - I wondered if I might be imagining it, but sleeping on my front is more comfortable now and Mrs Mangetout and my kids have all spontaneously commented about the retreating belly.
As of today, I’m four pounds down, but I’m not going to weigh myself again until Friday.
Well, there you go! Now it all makes sense, darned old grocery store scale, I’ll bet it gets a lot of abuse and accuracy isn’t it’s thing.
As for me, I may have lost a half pound, but the needle isn’t completely on 144 yet, so I’m not counting it. I did my treadmill thing and today I’m going to sign up at the new gym that opened down the street. The owner is a co-worker so I’ll have to go or face her every morning in the lounge. How’s that for the perfect trap?
I go to the doctor to get my blood drawn for a lipid test tommorow. It is making me crabby and tired. I have to fast for thirteen hours. It does not sound like that long, but I bet I am losing some wieght tonight.
As of now scale says 280.0 lbs.
Anyone want to e-mail and nag me about it.
Now I will read this thread.
I ment nag in a good way.
If I didn’t have a neck my head would be somewhere else now.
If anybody wants to keep up with the chart, go for it. There are too many people participating and I’m too lazy to keep up.
However, just to shame everyone into compliance, I may do one with starting and ending weights at the end of the month, just so we can brag. And if you don’t post back, I’ll just make up an absurdly enormous weight for you
Dogzilla congrats on that 4 lbs and on not smoking. I quit last week, slipped on Saturday night then quit again on Sunday so far so good.
My weight, however, is stuck at 172.5 I’ve not been a terribly responsible eater lately. I need to get with the program or you guys will be leaving me in the dust.
Thanks! I could never have quit without Wellbutrin. I highly recommend it if you are not prone to seizures. If you’re interested, e-mail me for more details. The bonus side effect: it can kill your appetite, so it can help you to lose weight while you’re quitting smoking.
Just wanted to make sure you know: smoking increases your metabolism, because, among other reasons, it increases your heart rate. Nearly all smokers who quit gain an average of 15-20 pounds. (This is why I’m trying to get back down to my lean, mean, fighting weight – to make up for putting it right back on!) Be prepared to not burn fat as fast as you would as a smoker. Even though the Wellbutrin helps – it’s no diet pill.
I read a great book that said most smokers who quit permanently are successful because they adopted a regular exercise program and stuck with it. Replace that bad habit with a good one! Again, e-mail me for more info and details. I’ll be happy to support you and share info while you’re quitting. Congratulations! You’ve taken the hardest step!
Gosh, don’t feel bad. I’ve been at this before this thread was even an idea, and I’ve only lost 1.5 pounds too.
I don’t know what it is, I’m so frustrated.
I have a weight shake in the morning (since all I do is get up and go back to bed), then for lunch I have steamed vegetables and salad, and for dinner I have a regular meal. No, I do not pig out at this last meal, it’s a regular portion. Also, I do not eat late (just before bed).
I have been walking AND using my mini-Stairmaster.
and more
Checking in at 174. That’s -3.
Mainly, I’ve changed my eating habits; cutting down on portions, cutting out snacks and soda. Drinking lots of water.
And I’m on the treadmill for 20 min., 3x a week.
I put on weight when I stopped smoking, but I think some of this was because food started tasting so gooood again.
PS, I just did a spreadsheet of a typical day’s food for me on my current regime and I’m only eating just under 1000 calories, against a calculated requirement of something like 2600 - I think I might be overdoing it a little; maybe two slices of toast for breakfast tomorrow.
Still holding at my 1 pound loss, but considering that I went up 2 pounds over the weekend (PMS water weight), and came back down this morning, I guess that’s ok. It should be downhill from now. Right? Right.
Considering I’ll be on a plane for a good portion of the day tomorrow, I have gone for a workout at Curves (30 minutes), plus a 90 minute yoga class so far today. I had 2 scrambled eggs at 6 AM, half an avocado at 9 AM, a large salad of mixed greens, tomato, ham, swiss, avocado and jalapeno ranch (I’m on Atkins, if you’re thinking that seems a little high in fat); nearly 2 Litres of water, and a cup of Vanilla Almond tea with a bit of Splenda. I’m hoping to go back to Curves again tonight to get another 30 minute workout, that I’ll somehow work around going out to dinner with my husband.
I really want to make this happen, because that will be a good motivation to try and lose that last 35 pounds.
So, is April 6/7 too late to join the club? I’d still love to lose 10 pounds in April (and May, and June, and for the foreseeable future), or perhaps a prorated 7-8.
Whatever the case may be, I’m starting at 258. (What am I admitting? ) I’m back into working out now, but it’s time to get rid of unhealthy breakfasts and no eating after dinner.
