This is surely cool - New Shoes (Original) - YouTube
Here is another shoe song for men who don’t care about shoes. " It only costs a dime, a nickle a shoe, does a million dollars worth of good for you"
Cringing a bit as I listen to Johhny’s description of the shoesshine “boy” in the song, but fuck, if Johnny Cash in 1956 is not liberal enough…
I like
Kind of odd? I’m not a fan of white soles and those look similar to a sling back ladies pump.
Cash is King.
Good music; but not sure what it’s got to do with the shoes pictured in the OP.
– For what it’s worth: I think Cash is describing an actual boy, that is, a child – not only does he refer to ‘his little head’ but also asks him if he isn’t awfully young to be working. The description, aside from the “boy” issue, is an odd mix of sympathy and patronization, though it may have been well meant in the 50’s.
Well yeah, it’s “shoeshine boy,” not “shoeshine man.”
Some of them were adult men. They just weren’t called men.
ETA: and I presumed that that was what @Mike_Mabes was referring to by putting the word “boy” in quotes.
