I thought it was something like Lousy Lane, but I’m not sure (loaned out the book, can’t check)
Well, I have never guessed a title but here is my guess:
Horrible Hotel? Usually the last illustration gives a hint of the next book’s theme, and this one has a beach with a hat on it and the hat says “hotel d” on it. It’s like a bellboy’s cap.
I’ve listened to it, and I have the book, but I don’t remember what was at the end of the audio. At the end of the book:
is 6 torn pages from Lemony Snicket on Hotel letterhead. It is from the Hotel Denouement. The pages are torn in half, so the letterhead is cut off, but I think someone mentioned Hotel Denouement in the book. Each page is a letter about an unsuccessful attempt to find a safe dropoff for the manuscript of book the 12th. By the 6th try there is only a scrap of page left. All you can read is

And the way I interpret it is that the last safe place he will try to hide it is the laundry of the Hotel Denouement, and the title of the book will either involve Hotel or Laundry!
And that is my guess.
Sunny once said “Ackroyd!” to agree with someone.
I had justed watched a Poirot murder mystery on TV called “The Murder of Roger Ackroyd.”
I felt so smart.
“Bass and Remora” et. al seem to be a play on the phrase “Faith and Beggorah” or however it goes. But that’s just a WAG.
My theory about pokey’s theory about the next book’s title:
I think it’ll be the last book that takes place at Hotel Denouement, for fairly obvious reasons. So if there are thirteen, the next book (twelve) won’t be the one that takes place at the Hotel Denouement. I could be wrong, of course, but that’s how I see it right now.
So far the best theory I’ve heard is Lousy Lane, but I don’t think we’ve got much to go on for the title of the next book.
That would make sense Bren_Cameron, unless book the Thirteenth is entitled:The Evil Epilogue. Which would be humorous, but far fetched.
My theory about your theory about my theory is that I agree, but if it’s not going to involve a
Hotel, I will be very surprised, because of that porter’s cap or whatever it is in the illustration. There’s also a castle-ish looking building in the distance. So far every book, the last illustration gave a major clue to the next book’s plot. Sometimes it just indicates someone they will meet, and sometimes it Bad Beginning: Snake =
Reptile Room: Ferry that says Lachrymose Leeches =
Wide Window: Office with Eye symbol on it = Dr. Orwell’s office
etc.
The only thing I can figure, is that whatever happens at the Hotel Denouement will be a cliffhanger, and that there will be a fire before any denouement, because hotels are very flammable.
Lousy Lane is a red herring.
I have to admit, I fell asleep a lot during the Grim Grotto, and I got the book, but I only looked at the pictures so far. :o
You know, Amazon sent me an e-mail last week asking if I wanted to pre-order, and of course I’ve forgotten the title they mentioned and it isn’t on their site that I can find.
Oh look it up on Amazon, that’s just crazy enough to work.
The Ominous Omnibus!?
Actually, if you click on the picture of the cover, it says that that’s the first three books combined into one. The mystery unfortunately continues…
Yeah you are 100% right, it is going to come out when the DVD does.
Foiled again!
I’ve noticed in Book the Seventh that Sunny’s
words are getting ever-so-slightly more coherent
and that Klaus
had his thirteenth birthday.
Does this mean that the kids are going to age naturally throughout the series?
I’m guessing that you haven’t read past the seventh book. Without giving too much away, the children, especially Sunny, continue to grow and age.
What’s the timeline on these books? How much time has passed by the time Klaus turns thirteen? It seems like the kids are at each spot for only a week, at the most.
This website (scroll down) estimates four months from The Bad Beginning through The Hostile Hospital, although I think that’s a conservative estimate. Adding time for The Carniverous Carnival through The Grim Grotto, it’s been at the very least six or seven months.
That water cycle trick worked on you, huh?
