Just got rid of my U-Verse TV service. I signed up for Hulu Plus and will be saving $100 a month. Of all the shows Mommypants and I watch regularly, only three are not available on Hulu. Two of them we can watch on cbs.com, and the other I’ll have to “make other arrangments”
I just lost my promo price through U-Verse and am very close to doing the same… The only thing holding me back is access to local sports (Chicago Blackhawks) that are only shown on cable/satellite. If I could figure out a way to get around that problem I would definitely cut the cord.
Same here. I’m a live sports junkie and there’s just no good alternative that will let me watch live NFL, MLB, NHL, NCAAfb, golf and Nascar all year long.
I had to confirm with the guy twice that I only want internet and phone; once when he called to say he was on the way and once when he arrived. He kept asking just to be SURE that he did the install correctly.
Yeah, saving $100/month and I have faster internet than I did with my cable. It’s only for a year, though…in 2015 I can get Google Fiber!
I wish the industry would hurry up and offer channels a la carte. It seems inevitable. It’s encouraging that HBO has statedthey will offer HBO Go as a stand alone service without requiring a cable package.
Congratulations! I cut the cord awhile ago, then agreed to free basic cable for a year so I could watch Cosmos, and now have cut it again. The thing that a lot of people run up against with Hulu though is that Hulu Plus is not a superset of Hulu. I believe this is still the case. That is, just because something is available on Hulu (standard) doesn’t mean it will be on Hulu Plus. I hope that doesn’t bite you!
I’m tempted, what with Dish and TBS fighting over money and cutting out some of the main channels I watch. It’s pissing me off, as I still pay full price.
But I’m no techie and I don’t really know how it all works.
I have Google Fiber without television, and am quite happy. I watch everything via my Roku. It helps that I have zero interest in sports. I have a Plex server set up, and most of the stuff I want to watch has a Plex channel. I never got Hulu, as I have little interest in most Network programs, but I have a Netflix subscription and my sister’s HBOGO
isn’t Hulu a “cord” of sorts in itself? to be truly a cord cutter- wouldn’t that entail just using OTA broadcasts exclusively?
In my area I receive 73 channels over the air, granted I have an expensive antenna on the roof. I am in Phoenix AZ which does not have the largest network market but I get a few Tucson channels.
Speaking of “no cable cords” surprised free to air satellite is not real well known in the USA. Tons of channels. Some are channels that cost extra through the cable company like some of the foreign language stations. The OTA satellite is fun for those who like novelty not fun for those who only like HBO and the more well-known popular networks. The Arabic stations commercials and game shows are a hoot though.
Netflix is crap. Ive had it for years barely use it myself and there are now 5 “users” on my account and 3 of them I have no idea who they are. Who cares- not me. Glad someone gets some use out of it.
Sure, but it’s the term that seems to have stuck. I have an OTA antenna, but the last time I bothered was the Oscars telecast.
I have a Ku FTA dish on my roof, but haven’t used it in a long time, mostly because I just got too busy to fiddle with it.
Netflix is useful if you want to watch something, and don’t need to watch some *specific *thing. And it is useful if you wish to binge-watch old TV series.
