I'm on the "political right" why do I feel so lonely at Straightdope?

I like a strong military, disapprove of the Iraq invasion, and believe the Patriot Act poses grave threats to civil liberties, and believe in the Bill of Rights. I’m still on the fence about abortion (But believe it must be a personal decision – not a government decision), pro second amendment, but also believe in legalized drugs and prostitution.

I don’t believe in prayer in school. It is a personal religious matter, best left to the individual. But, on the other hand, the nondenominational “In God we trust” doesn’t bother me.
I am against any enforced narrow sense of morality and its ensuing restriction of freedoms, other than the “do not cause harm” restriction.

I am against censorship. I feel some things are simply not done, but am not willing to give someone else the authority to make the decisions.

I believe in personal responsibility and personal freedom. so long as it does not take away from soemone else, and so long as one is willing to accept full responsibility for their choices and the results.

I’m one of those who drifted toward left of center, but we agree on enough to have a common ground.

Funny…this is far and away the most frustrating thing that I find about the left.

I just took the political compass test, by the way. It was very interesting. It turns out that I am nearly exactly in the center on the Authoriatarian/Libertarian social axis (+.46) and just a bit to the right on the economic (+2.25). The thing that has always driven me away from the Democrats has been the apparent embracing of idealism over pragmatism. That drives me crazy. And given the fact that we are stuck with a two-party system, I’ve thrown my lot in with the Republicans. I’m not concerned about some of the over-the-top social agenda from the right, anyway. The positions are not numerically popular enough to be considered a problem.
