Hooray for partisan idiocy!

**Quartz ** asks if anyone can recommend a right-wing equivalent to the SDMB. How many posts before someone comes in with a moronic “hurr hurr righties are morons” post? That would be one.

How many cheap pointless shots in the entire thread? I make it seven, and that’s being (ho ho!) conservative.

So yes, well done. A polite request, no poking fun by the OP, and a straightforward question. It takes some skill to go out of your way to wedge a little jab in there. Congratulations to you all. You’ve successfully given those people you disagree with lovely free proof that you are as moronic and quick to get a stab in as they may think. Superb job, guys and girls.

Good pit. I myself saw the thread and thought “Mmmm… an interesting question” for about half a second before I thought “Can’t wait to see the replies this one draws”.

Well, it certainly helps eliminate any doubt as to which way the SDMB leans.

The irony! It burns!

Leans to the left! Leans to the right!
Shut the fuck up! Fight fight fight!

Gooooooo, Dopers! Yaaaayyyy!

Damn yer soul if ye have one, Revenant.

Okay, claim as you might the leftward tilt here, but monitor the righty boards to see how long before the most conservative, by SDMB standards, will throw up his hands and say, “These guys are morons! I see a logical fallacy here and there and who on Earth would fall for THAT?!?!?”

FTR, the same thing would happen, possibly sooner, on a lefty board. We are, in the greater scheme of things, astonishingly centrist.

It was a stupid question. This message board contains no structure that makes it inherently right or left.

Anything can be posted here unless it breaches certain mod-enforced rules that have no left/right bias. If, as it happens, things that are posted here tend to be left wing, that can only be a feature of what happens under the sort of open-ended structure that this board has.

It was a stupid OP just like an OP that says “I want a dart that is exactly like a normal dart in construction and shape, but which falls tail end first” is a stupid OP.

We have always mocked stupid questions here.

Hahahahahahahaha

Imagine a SDMB for right wingers, with threads like:

Christmas is dissapearing

Jurrasic Park is for atheists

Iraq: Hell, at least we got Saddam!

***Misunderestimation **is ** a word, you leftist moron![/**I]

***You use condoms?!?!?!? Hah![/**I]

Oh my god! My child is learning Spanish, and I had to call the cops…

and, everybody’s favorite:

***Man spills coffee on airport security gaurd, you know what this means: we need more security! Coffee’s now banned from airports…[/**I]

Anyways… My post that I removed from that thread said that the probable reason that there aren’t any good conservative boards (or otherwise, more intelligent conservies on this one) is because they tend to be too busy to sit about posting to bulletin boards on the internet. And I suspect that their politics would be relatively centrist and irreligious and whatnot, and otherwise not terribly similar to “standard” Republican doctrine as the average liberal Doper is compared to any random rebellious high schooler.

If you wanted to know what their opinions are, just start reading the Wallstreet Journal and the Economist and you’ll probably get a good sense of things.

Bollocks. I’d previously had good results asking for left-wing blogs.

True, yet it has happenned.

You do understand the difference between a blog and an open registration message board, right?

You perceive that it has happened. I perceive this place as quite neutral. There are more people able to articulate logical right wing positions here than I come across in daily life.

You can either try to convince yourself that your perception is unbiased and that this place is left biased despite there being no structural reason why that might be so, or you can accept that your perception isn’t everything.

Or maybe Rev just doesn’t recognize intelligently articulated conservative views as “right-wing.”. There’s certainly precedent for that on both sides.

-the original hurr-hurr guy

Maybe I’m not visiting the right threads, but I’m just not seeing this ‘liberal bias’ that supposedly exists. There are a great many potshots made in either direction, and not a few complaints that incoming potshots are the only kind that happen. Bullshit.

I repeat my assertion that, in international terms, this international board is broadly distributed somewhere around the middle. Yes, that’s ‘the left’ in terms of American politics, but there’s not much anyone can do about it.

I think it’s a fair fact that the members of the SDMB are above average intelligence.
If there is a Left-Bias I think that tells us something!

When did the “conservative” rallying cry become "Why is everyone so meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaan to us?!?!??!?!?!?"

That assumes that there’s some grand, universal standard for Right and Left. I don’t think there is. I believe that the terms mean something different in every country.

Another thing to consider is that both the terms Liberal and Conservative have, in the US at least, been co-opted and no longer mean what they used to. I think that actual, intellectually honest Liberal and Conservative opinions both have a place at the table. The problem is, the co-opted, partisan hegemony has pushed folks away from the table and they’re just standing in the corner, sniping. The spirit of compromise has been abandoned, so the stalemate continues. It’s like we’re running headlong into a Middle East-ernization of politics here.

At least in relation to the present actions of the US right wing administration, the answer is: when the rallying cry of “the facts are on our side” became so untenable that no one but loons could stomach making it.

Not only does it mean something different in every country, but to at least some extent, in relation to every topic. That’s another reason why it is so meaningless to say that these boards lean left. My impression is that on some topics the weight of poster numbers leans what I would call right, and on others left. And I’d be the first to accept that my view on what is “left” and “right” on those topics might not find universal acceptance.
