While bothering me for a while now, it was prompted by a thread today.
Give it a rest.
I’ll play matchmaker for you, so you don’t feel like the only conservative voice in the cold, cruel, liberal world of the SDMB. I stopped at 50, 35 of which were off of the top of my head, but will happily provide 100 if that would guarantee to stop the whining. Listed below are friends for you to play with. Be advised that a great many of them are intelligent, thoughtful posters, so if you go all freaky on us about Gay Muslim Terrorists destroying Neo-con (liberal code word for Jew they tell me) family structures with 1920’s style death rays while getting blowjobs in round rooms, they’ll not come to your aid, and you will indeed be all alone. Heck, a few of them aren’t even voting for Bush this time around, not counting the ones who can’t vote as they live overseas. They still wouldn’t be caught dead in a “Bleeding-Heart Liberal” T-shirt.

Remember, if you promise that the whining will stop across the board, I will give you 50 more friends to play with. In the meantime, just know that you’re not alone out there. Also note, the mods will not ban you for being conservative or even espousing conservative views here, no matter how many times you say they will, so rejoice in your conservatism!
I must be the only “conservative” in the world who supports:
abortion
legalized drugs
gay marriage (controlled by states)
euthenasia
elimination of 'under God" from the pledge
legalized prostitution
… to name just a few
And I see people on that list whom I have never agreed with a single one of their OPs.
You need to learn to distinguish between conservatives and libertarians.
While he tends to avoid getting deeply into political threads (mostly because he thinks arguing with the Loony Left is a waste of time), BrotherCadfael is proudly conservative – with streak of libertarianism.
I don’t think the distinction is relevant to the OP. What is relevant is the self identification of posters who complain about there being no conservatives.
Though it seems to me that it really resolves down to the “left wing” posters are far more together on politics than the “right wing” posters. Which shouldn’t really be a surprise.
Another humorless liberal, I see. DMC, did you happen to notice the two smilies at the end of each of my comments? They were intended as tongue-in-cheek, good-natured observations of the board. Frankly, I think this place is much more fun being overwhelmingly liberal such as it is. No shortage of opinions or observations in need of correction.
I’m assuming this is me. The gay, atheist, never-have-voted-for-a-republican-but-have-voted-for-democrats-libertarians-and-indepence-party, pro-abortion, pro-gun control, pro-social security, guy.
Well, I’m glad to have a rep at least. I feel like Pinky Tuscadero.
Well, when you lump people together whose political philsophies are different, then call them all “right wing”, it shouldn’t be a surprise that they aren’t “together on politics”. :dubious:
I think it’s a common conservative tactic-complaining about how persecuted you are, that conservatives are a minority, in a sea of “loony lefties”, etc.
Except of course, when it comes to convincing people to vote for conservative causes. Then it’s all, “A minority of fringe liberals blah blah blah…”
Talk about playing the victim card.
BTW, Fenris is also a conservative. And Milum-wasn’t he banned?
Bwahaha. The same put-open conservative mindset that produces such squawks as “liberal media! bleat!”
As I’ve said before, to be a conservative is, by definition, to have a twisted understanding of the way things really are. Delusions are part of the package.
It’s my understanding that roger thornhill and bodswood are the same poster. So you’ve only got forty-nine posters on the list, thus invalidating the entire premise of your OP.
Good observation except that Liberals do the exact same thing. That’s more of a human being tactic than a Conservative one. It’s just that when “we” do it, it’s real. When “they” do it, it’s a tactic.
abortion? Check.
legalized drugs? Check.
gay marriage? Check.
euthenasia? Check.
elimination of 'under God" from the pledge? Check.
legalized prostitution? Check. checks OP’s list for my name
YAY! I’m a conservative!
*Racial quotas are ok, unless it’s White people
*Using family connections to get special treatment is bad, unless you’re a Kennedy
*Tariffs are bad, unless my constituents want it (that one works both ways)
*Blocking judicial nominees is bad, unless it’s Bork
blah, blah, blah. It’s all a matter of whose ox is being gored.
We can play all day:
*The First Ammendment is sacred, unless it’s buring a flag
countered with:
*The First Ammendment is sacred, unless it’s a student who wants to lead a prayer.
I can see the inconsistency in my moderately Libertarian views. What the hell is wrong with the Democrats and Republicans in that respect?
It’s interesting and amusing to me how anxious the liberal contingent is to jump upon their opponents that the merest mention by a conservative of being outnumbered – something which is usually little more than a simple observation of fact – is assailed as whining, complaining, squawking, feeling persecuted, etc.
I’ve never felt any comment I made about it was a complaint and I’ve never felt persecuted. Whenever I comment on being outnumbered that’s all it is: a comment…a simple, perfectly obvious observation of fact. So chill, you guys. You have enough to contend with just trying to justify your own positions on things without having to try to analyze why we mention the fact that there are so many of you.
