I'm scared to death to tell my boss....

Since we will in all likelihood be moving 180 miles away at the end of the summer, I will be trying to get a new job instead of commuting 180 miles each way every day. I’m not going to enjoy telling my bosses that they won’t have me around after July (I’m told that my presence was crucial to the semester’s sanity and success, since I soaked up new students like a sponge), but I’ll be doing so well before two weeks are up just so they don’t start to think they’ll be able to plan fall semester around having me here (the odds of me still being here are low, but still there). Meantime there are no pay raises for me, only the possibility of getting more hours (a looming possibility as the end of term approaches), but they do not assign the hours so much as they approve contracts, and I have already been told that it’s acceptable to spend more time per week doing exam prep, which equates to more hours (hours I’d spend doing not much of anything) and thus more pay. Not all jobs are the sort where you can get more hours on a whim (but also lose them if students don’t show) and nobody tries to pinch you the week after for it.

In regards to them offering you a raise, I’m reminded of an item in the autobiography of Captain Eddie Rickenbacker, where he went to his boss early in his life and told him he was quitting for another job.

Powerful thought. Something I’ve thought of when leaving jobs in my past.

I wasn’t looking, looking. It was the only real job I applied for.

The job isn’t hostile, more like, irritating. It’s RETAIL. :frowning:

To clear up, these jobs aren’t big important ones. I currently work at Sally’s Beauty Supply. The new job is at Blockbuster. Blockbuster isn’t really offering more money, but they have more opporunity for raises than Sally’s does. In the meantime, I’m getting paid about the same at Blockbuster as I am at Sally’s without the .50 cent raise.

I don’t know what to do. I’ll do both!

I’d go with Blockbuster, if only because they’re all over the freakin’ place and if you ever need to transfer/move or something, it’d probably be easier

Ok, I would go with Blockbuster cause I’m a movie-watching dork and I’d assume they have a Free Rentals (or something similar) perk.

Do you get a discount at Sally’s?

I’m just a big, old girly girl and having access to all those nail polishes *alone * would be worth me staying.

But that’s just me…
