I'm sick of this Global Warming!

Around the planet there is a group of people that denies that humans are influencing the atmosphere and, therefore, global climate. This group is known as American Political Conservatives, and they are motivated by corporate profit above all else.
I don’t need politics gumming up my science.

Just to be clear, greedy corporate bosses make up only a tiny minority of deniers. The two main groups are
[ul][li] Ignorant dupes who base most of their opinions on snide remarks made by cute blondes on FoxNews; and[/li][li] Dolts, such as we find in the thread, who got a B+ in some undergraduate science class and therefore assume they know more than the experts, because PhD’s are liberals who drink French wine and have gay friends.[/li][/ul]

While that cartoonist simplicity might make us feel good, as in “If only we could do something about the evil group killing the planet”, reality isn’t a single pane political cartoon.

And it’s not that people deny just over changes to the atmosphere, air pollution of all kinds. We are all in denial over something we consume, use or do, that we know science says is bad for the earth. If even the new Freons are causing climate change, then you have to stop using them. But that isn’t going to happen.

Just like people will not stop driving cars, or using fossil fuels to mine phosphate, or create nitrogen for fertilizers. Cement making isn’t going to stop, nor will people stop cutting/burning forests, or damning up all the major rivers.

Of that there is little dispute. It’s like stating “Around the planet there is a group of people that denies that humans are polluting the atmosphere and ground and water, therefore, the well being of our lives.” This is pure human nature, where somehow we imagine that it isn’t really that bad, or even harmless, no matter what, or how much poison we create and dispose of, it won’t really hurt us. Or it’s a trade off we can live with.

This is easily observed in others, rarely in ourselves. It’s why somebody can sit in modern comfort, typing out a screed about the evil people destroying our world, while doing exactly what the screed is about. Sipping coffee grown, shipped, packaged, delivered and brewed with fossil fuels, we don’t consider our behavior as a problem.

No, it’s “them”, the greedy deniers who pumped the fuel out, shipped it, processed it, sold it to the entire chain of commerce that results in our sipping some nice Columbia coffee, all warm and comfortable, with electricity and heat, all of which came from the very thing that is viewed as “evil”, so that somehow the angry mob can vent their spleen over how “other people” are destroying the planet.

When faced with these facts, the true denial starts. Because in no circumstance will the angry person calling people “deniers” actually stop using fossil fuels. Or they will insist only “other people” can do anything about the problem. The last thing the angry self righteous fuckhead is going to do, is to themselves stop, or drastically reduce, their own consumption. Or spend their own money on creating an alternative.

There actually are a whole lot of people who aren’t using fossil fuels, but they aren’t on a message board bitching about deniers, or wasting time typing out their personal animosity and hatred. It’s hard to imagine, but there are still people in the world who don’t have the luxury of wasting time arguing on the internet. They don’t even have internet. Or electricity. But face it, you don’t actually give the slightest of fucks about them.

You see? It’s not the billions of everyday people using power, eating food and drinking water, all made possible by fossil fuels that’s the problem. No, the real problem is a few greedy people.

You see how simple life is? To the smug fuckhead, there’s the problem right there. It’s not that billions of people actually depend each day on fuel, it’s those few idiots that are in denial that’s the problem. If they would just get on board, global warming would be solved.

Meanwhile, the facts, even as uncertain as they are, show us an actual thing, something completely unexpected, and certainly not predicted, about the real world.

Here’s a look using the polar maps, showing a 17 year period of warming. There is zero doubt this happened. It has uncertainty of course, but it’s pretty much a fact based look at things.

Don’t forget to look at the regional curve, an important part of each map. You may have to just scroll down the page first linked to, image links which are generated on demand won’t appear unless you followed the first link.

Here is a 17 year period that does not show warming. In fact, it’s almost the opposite of the previous period. Again, compare the regional curves to see why this is so. I know, this requires effort, so most people just won’t do it. Much less think about it.

Why should they? It might disturb their comfortable fossil fueled life.

Assuming you can view the curves, the difference between the two is startling to a scientist.

Warming vs cooling.

Now for someone to actually look at those, who understands climate science, and not see a serious problem, that is true denial.

Of course this being the Pit, and science based discussion of such things anathema to the internet, it will be ignored.

Denial, it’s not just a river in bumfuck Egypt.

Well, I’m sure most everybody is sick of this topic (or rather, seeing a post in it, from FX), so here’s a parting thought.

From DISCOVER magazine, 2001

And here are some images and a story about the Delaware river, from Jan 2014

I wish the global warming would take a break this winter (like in 2012), because I am so sick of it.

Is there anyone in this thread who belongs to this group of people?

Also, please name three prominent members of this group. Assuming you are not attacking a strawman, it should be pretty easy.

TIA.

Oh shit, I think I’m about to be put on Brazil84’s ignore list.

Oh man, I thought this thread was dead.

Also, how come you never linked to your blog/rules itt?

Interesting, and my first thought is, have I ever violated any of those, in answering you of course. I’m quite sure I’ve insulted a few fuckheads before.

My memory isn’t perfect, but itt I do not recall anyone flat out in denial about our level of pollution, nor the certainty that we are changing the entire atmospheric balance, mostly by land use changes, cement making and of course, burning fossil fuels.

There is a great ironic humor, in that I started off the thread with an example of a cold record being broken. So many more have happened since then, and currently it’s still happening, with what looks like another record cold boreal winter, started early as well.

But fuck all that, did you see the new paper on this? With no less than Phil Jones involved? It states and shows clearly exactly what I’ve been talking about for years now. How the boreal winter cooling is the cause of the pause.

Temperature Anomalies Warming Faster than Earth's Average

You may recall this was the point I was making in the locked topic in great debates, as well as countless time in this very topic.

Not that the facts, much less an actual study like this will matter.

But goddamn, somebody with some credentials finally has noticed what was obvious, for at least the last five years.

Of course they aren’t going to mention that this is exactly the opposite of what both theory and the models predict will happen due to an enhanced greenhouse effect, as the cause of warming.

Priceless.

Trolls always get scared by that.

Hahahahaha!

You got to love the internets.

Trolls love the internets.

I’m quite certain you are an expert on those matters. Now run off an play, the adults are talking here.

Which is pretty much the current problem facing the alarmists, and even the serious researcher, since as time goes by, it’s becoming impossible to stick with the original theory. Note the paper that simply came out and said it. Jan and Feb are trending colder. This is 100% against the global warming theory. In fact, winter amplification leading to even more winter warming is a key mechanism for AGW. That the opposite is happening, and it’s starting to look like it can’t be handwaved away any longer, it’s a serious issue. In fact, it’s a really important matter.

That may be, but I tend to ignore the idiots, they are quite simply, boring.

Utter nonsense, which is why when faced with having to back up your claim, you left.

I find it humorous in the extreme that the idiots think it’s trolling, when faced with massive science based posts, like the following example. (which is related of course to the new paper)

Unlike the idiot troll, who posts a one liner, devoid of any actual content, much less effort, we see massive overkill, with all kinds of science and humor.

It’s actually by design, I know full well the trolls don’t actually read posts, much less study any of the links. I know that for a fact, as hidden within the massive walls of data and text, there actually are some obvious set ups, but the trolls never even see them.

Priceless.

Yeah, but to be fair, the other side suffers from the same flaw. It may be hard to fathom, but the “skeptics” are almost as resistant as the true believers, when it comes to the science. Both sides are so cock sure of themselves, it makes me sick.

No adult would be quite so desperate for attention as this idiot troll.

If the only person you can get to play with you is another utter moron like brazil84 you’ve lost the game.

How to debunk falsehoods

Not necessarily, why not just answer my question? You stated that there is a group of people that denies that humans are influencing the atmosphere and, therefore, global climate.

This is a pretty extreme belief. I don’t have this belief; as far as I know, fxmastermind doesn’t have this belief. It looks to me like you are pretty much setting up a strawman to attack.

I don’t know, if somebody (not on my shit list) had asked for the link, I would have been happy to provide it.

Well I just got an answer to my wondering. Obviously I’m not on ignore.
