Brief highjack, but, in very much the same vein as, “Oh, it’s cold out tonight, so global warming must be nonsense,” southern California just had a couple of rainstorms, which dropped a few inches of water on us.
Now, we actually have idiots declaring, “The drought is over!”
Not really, it’s quite on topic. People using short term events, and confusing them for climate, is a major theme in topic.
Which is human nature. People have ALWAYS been like this. The weather, especially in California, isn’t even that big of a mystery. Due to an abundance of evidence, and especially the very long lived trees there, we know a lot about California climate in the past.
That any of it seems some great mystery, or that anyone is freaking out over the current conditions, shows just how ignorant the media and current consensus science is.
If you actually look at the climate records, California looks like it is going through a climate cycle, and while it is indeed bad, it’s not unusual. This is exactly why we use science, not what is happening this year, to understand climate.
The thirties were extremely bad for California, as well as most of the US. It’s the ignorance about this that makes people freak out over the present. It has to be by design, since the facts are no great secret in regards to precipitation.

The Scientific American article is actually pretty similar to a lot of the global warming stories I have seen. It talks about a serious threat of monster storms and flooding but doesn’t actually make any clear predictions.
And yes, I agree it’s idiotic to declare the drought to be over based on speculation contained in a science magazine. Kinda reminds me of the people who claimed a few years back that snow would soon be a thing of the past in Britain.
To be fair, at the time of the ill advised prophecies of snow, the models and theory, along with a climate cycle of warming winters and reduced snowfall, were strong evidence of a trend for much warmer winters, with reduced snowfall.
This particular troll, though, just keeps responding to its own troll posts and quoting other posters from months ago, just to make it look like it’s getting some actual response. An exceptionally desperate and pathetic troll, to be sure.
That’s priceless. It really is. My consistent position, based on the facts, has been clear, and always backed up with cites, evidence and clear reasoning. Anyone who has actually paid attention knows the three main points.
Boreal winters have been cooling.
This boreal cooling trend is the reason for the global annual mean to be flat, or even cooling.
The computer models didn’t predict this, and can’t reproduce this event.
The bigger issue is of course that the basic global warming theory doesn’t predict this at all.
The fuckhead considers this trolling. Which is just fucking hilarious. It really is.
Here is some simple and clear evidence that shows these points are now showing up in scientific papers.
Which is exactly what I pointed out in the topic that was locked. Warming has continued for most of the year, but the cooling trend for boreal winters is so strong, it brings the global annual mean down, so that it looks flat, or slightly cooling.
And of course I showed all my work, so that anyone who was skeptical could check.
So keep posting one liners, and thinking you aren’t the troll, it amuses me.
