Probably it wouldn’t be too hard for an experienced programmer to write a program which passes the GIGO-Turing Test. i.e. a program which automatically posts in global warming threads and is indistinguishable from actual posts by GIGOGallup himself.
The algorithm is pretty straight forward. Just scan posts for key words, search for those keywords on skepticalscience, and post random cuts and pastes from the search results. Throw in a few stock insults for good measure, and voila.
Seriously, I think there’s a pretty good chance that if somebody hacked Gigo’s account and replaced it with a program like that, it would take months for anyone to notice the difference. If they ever did.

I agree. I find it rather interesting that **FXMastermind **and **Brazil84 **appear to be championing the notion that Global Warming / Climate Change is a fabrication based on flawed studies. Yet, neither of these posters finds it necessary to forward any alternative hypotheses or data that contradicts the standard accepted premises presented above by **Gigobuster **and others. According to the vast majority of studies made over the last few decades, the overall atmospheric temperature has been increasing for decades and that it is highly likely that the reason for this increase is an increase in certain gases such as carbon dioxide and methane. The sources for these gases appear to be man-made and therefore, based upon this chain of logic, the cause for the increase in average global temperature is anthropogenic in nature.
When the total amount of energy in a system is increased, the chaotic instabilities inherent in that system will, by definition, increase. Therefore, in a system as complex as that of the planetary atmosphere, you are likely to see extremes in both the overall highs and lows in local temperatures. This is likely one of the causes for the remarkably cool August 2013 that we experienced in the southern states of the US. Contrary to the simple analysis offered by those who are either too ignorant or too venal to accept the conclusion of scientific studies, Global Warming can, in fact, be a causative agent in extreme winter weather as well.
The only reason that I can see for any contrarian point of view on this matter is that there is a very vocal and powerful minority of people who believe that any mitigation of this process will negatively impact them monetarily. This is quite analogous to the way in which a vocal and relatively powerful minority of Christians oppose the scientific theory of biological evolution. The only reason why that theory is at all controversial is because it appears to some that it contradicts their religious beliefs. In other words, the only reason why this debate (such as it is) even exists is because of willful ignorance and the influence of powerful moneyed forces who have used politics to attack a scientific premise.
Also, it is my considered opinion that both FXMastermind and Brazil84 have mistaken the tactics of sniggering at the perceived flaws in another’s presentation of facts for the actual mental task of countering those assertions with counter-assertions that are supported by the common data. This indicates a general laziness of intellect and therefore unworthy of their vaunted roles as fighters against ignorance. I recommend that these two posters need another hobby. Might I suggest R/C helicopters?

What exactly is the theory (or hypothesis) of “Global Warming / Climate Change”? You know, it might even be something I agree with.
