I'm sick of this Global Warming!

But that isn’t how science works. They just adjust the models, and explain how they didn’t actually predict what happened. It’s not that they were incorrect, they just needed adjusting.

But we do know the climate, because old Viking remains are showing up as the ice melts. This means the climate was warmer when they established settlements, around 1000 years ago. And we know from ice cores of the melting ice it became much colder around 700 years ago, and starting warming up 150 years ago. Just as in Alaska, retreating glaciers show that it was much warmer in the past than it is now.

No, they still insist the warming has not stopped. You can’t stop global warming.

Damn you Global Warming. Damn you.

Wow, that’s the sort of thing that a stupid person would think is a smoking gun.

Nice find.

It never ceases to amaze me that anecdotal evidence in support of GW is ridiculed and yet anecdotal “counter evidence” keeps getting offered up.

When you add energy into a system it tends to become more volatile. That might mean, for example, 3 places are 2 degrees hotter and one place is 4 degrees cooler.

That volatility means that the specifics get much harder to predict. To the extent that those who favor the GW theory use anecdotal evidence to support their POV, they’re being foolish.

The contrary side is just being ludicrous.

The issue with GW is not that some GW hasn’t happened before. It’s that while a hunter gatherer “civilization” might weather it well, a modern civilization that relies on being able to grow crops in very specific places and living in highly vulnerable areas is probably going to suffer more in the long term.

That is not even close to the problems prophesied.

You might note that quite often the prophets are a place or two removed from the actual science.

This thread is seriously more embarrassing than DrDeth’s pitting of SenorBeef because the Game of Thrones TV thread had a “no-spoilers” rule. That one was only half as long and when he came up with his hilarious burn “WHERE’S THE BEEF?” he only repeated it like 5 times instead of going on for 16 goddamn pages.

Global warming made you say that.

Well my impression is that the “anecdotal counter evidence” is largely aimed at ridiculing the “anecdotal evidence” you refer to.

Well how would measure “volatility” scientifically? If there’s no way to measure it then your claim is meaningless. If there is a way to measure it, then specific predictions are possible.

By the way, when you refer to “GW,” what exactly do you mean? Would you care to offer a precise definition of “GW”?

If this is correct, then the world’s emergence from the Little Ice Age would have been expected to cause a lot of “suffering,” agreed?

But, but, but, Local Warming was a hoax for one day last week in a small city in Georgia. So there.

Never you mind that there hasn’t actually been any warming. They are claiming " the Arctic is warming at about eight times the pace of the rest of the planet", which would mean, in a scientific world, the arctic is cooling eight times faster.

Except Trenberth says the heat is in the deep oceans, to explain why there has been no measurable warming.

So we have two different “reasons” here. The heat went into the oceans, or the world is actually warming and we didn’t measure it.

Damn global warming.

The world is getting a little warmer. The longer we wait, the warmer overall it will get. The world climate is a complex system. There are no precise definitions.

No.

If you are unable to offer a precise definition for “GW” or to explain how “volatility” might be measured, then your statements are meaningless.

Why not? You seem to be claiming that increases in global temperature cause changes in the locations where crops can be grown which causes “suffering.” Did I misunderstand you?

40 million years ago, the high Canadian Arctic had the same climate as present-day South Florida. The land now known as Ellesmere island had lush forests, swamps, and giant cedar trees. There were mammals, birds, crocodiles. That’s the kind of planet I would like-life is a lot easier when it is warmer.
At the present (inter-glacial period), the polar regions are locked in ice-I prefer the tropical scenario.

Not at the moment.

I don’t know guys, I’m starting to warm to this idea of Climate Change. the whole idea seems pretty cool.

Of course it is. It’s much warmer right now in Athens, GA than it was last Wednesday.

And cooler than 8 hours ago.

When there is a bad storm (just one, for the entire year), it’s “the new normal”, it’s “global warming”, and it is your fault. You caused it, along with everyone else who dared live life using coal or oil or natural gas. Hurricane Sandy was climate change. Just like Katrina was. Climate, as in global warming. Katrina, the new normal.

After Katrina there was 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and of course 2010. Then 2011, and finally another big hurricane in 2012. Climate change! You see? The new normal.

But last years 28 named winter storms, that was just weather. Some of them were huge destructive blizzards. Just weather.

If it’s a warm weather event, it’s global warming, man made climate change.

It it’s record cold, increasing snow in winter, late frost in spring, unheard of early snow and frost, it’s just weather. It means nothing.

But if it’s hot, it’s news.

Record cold in China. Just weather. Record unprecedented snow. Just weather. Coldest winter in recent history. Just weather. Record sea ice, cooling trend in Alaska, for over a decade, just weather.

But one hot day, it’s the new normal, it’s climate change. Weather means global warming, unless it’s cold weather. Except now even cold weather is global warming.

December 2010 was the coldest month ever in Florida. Since records began. Just weather.

Yet it fit the colder winter trend that has been happening for decades. Just weather.

One hot day in Florida, global warming. Climate change.

Global warming can do anything. It’s making me sick.

It’s the new normal.

Except of course, it isn’t. Records for Athens show November temperatures have been falling foe the last three decades. .9 F a decade in fact.

Cold record for Athens
Nov
19th 20 °F (2008)
18th 23 °F (1891)
17th 25 °F (1984)
16th 19 °F (1940)
15th 20 °F (1969)
14th 23 °F (2013)
13th 23 °F (2013)

Checking the hot day records, only four of them are from this century. Climate records show Georgia has in fact, only warmed in November by .8 F since records began.

Whaaat? That’s crazy/ Cherry picking. Look at the annual temperatures damn you!

Georgia, since NCDC data begins, has cooled by .5 degrees F

In fact, all the records show the hottest years were in the 1920 and 30s
