If it was up to me, we would have safe clean nuclear power, clean underground coal burning only, until we don’t need any coal period, everybody would be planting trees, laws would be enforced to protect the planet from destruction, and solar energy would have the same funding as the motherfucking war machines of the entire planet. We could brew our own ethanol to run cars on, and all trucks and ships would be hybrids. Jets would fly on hydrogen only, and oil spills would never happen again. Fuck you fossil fuel assholes. He says, with authority, several things that are blatant lies. It can’t be he is just stupid. Nobody is that stupid.

How does this sort of thing happen?
You can check the jet stream yourself, http://squall.sfsu.edu/crws/jetstream.html and see that there is almost never a straight west to east jet stream
or that a “weak” jet stream causes cold air to move south, in fact, the cold air causes the jet stream, not the other way around
weak jet streams are in summer, when there is no drastic difference between air masses to create them
extreme cold and extreme warm air meeting is what causes extreme weather, and powerful jet streams
the lie that a warm arctic, and a weak jet stream causes cold winters is complete bullshit. if this were so, the cold winters of the past make no sense at all
No Jeff, despite your obvious brainwashing problem, cold winters are not caused by the jet stream. It’s something else.
You’ll be pleased to know that former Chancellor of the Exchequer Lord Nigel Lawson is making the same arguments against climate change as you, FX, dismissing links between climate change and the recent flooding made by Professor Julia Slingo as “absurd”.
A comparison of their respective qualifications to discuss climate events will of course demonstrate which side has more credibility.
If I follow those links, and find somebody pointing out that the colder winter trend is what has been dragging the global mean down, I will be pissed.

At this special point in time, the midst of a simply awful winter for parts of the US, let us return to that OP, which was about record cold in Atlanta, in the dead of summer.
Looking at the now familiar GISS data, we can see that since 1998 August there is trending down. Not hotter, cooler. Using the 2002-present trend, it’s more obvious. (and look at that Pacific ocean cooling, my my)
Don’t read too much into it, it just means the data shows August in part of the US is actually getting cooler. The winters there don’t show the same trend.
