I'm so freaking hungry

I had a gall bladder attack last week. I’ve been having minor symptoms for months, but I thought it was stress or indigestion. A middle of the night trip to the ER, though, resulted in the diagnosis of gallstones and I’m scheduled for surgery four weeks from tomorrow, so that I can get the thing taken out. Meanwhile, my doctor has told me to stick to a no fat or very, very low fat diet. It’s been six days and all I want is a greasy piece of pepperoni pizza followed by a hot fudge brownie sundae. Or fried chicken! Or a cheeseburger! Grrrrrr. I wonder if there’s anymore broccoli in the refrigerator.

Good luck with your upcoming cholecystectomy.

It might be interesting if, sometime in the future, you create a “Ask the post-gallbladder surgery patient” post and let us know if anything has changed regarding your digestive processes.

I only mention that because the ex-'s did change. More gas. She even commented on it. Oh, lucky me.

Just a sec…you said four weeks? Seems kinda lengthy.

Anyway, good luck again.

If you stick to the low-fat diet for the whole four weeks, you might be surprised to find that you’re not attracted to those foods when you can eat them again. I changed my eating habits a few months ago, and now I rarely want anything fatty- a simple hamburger every now and then satisfies the few small cravings left. Unless you want to go back to eating like that- then by all means, carry on!

Yeah, Alice, I’m hoping that’s what happens. I really have to stick to it…I have the threat of pain to motivate me. I wouldn’t typically eat all of those things I listed, except on a very occasional basis, but they sound* really *good right now! Mmmmmm, chocolate.

Rysdad, it’s four weeks because I don’t have an infection and we had to coordinate my husband’s work schedule and the doctor’s vacation schedule. If things go downhill, they’ll get me in sooner. Maybe I should do an Ask the…thread. They are planning to do something new and interesting with me - a single-incision laproscopy (as opposed to a double-incision).

Try some chocolate sherbet. I found it at WalMart when I was on a no-fat diet for my gall bladder last year.

That sounds good…thanks for the suggestion! On a positive note, I weighed myself this morning and I’ve lost 4 pounds this week!

It’s not so bad. One day of pain meds and I was fine. Just tender around the incisions, which are itty bitty things. The worst one is by the belly button, because your pants kinda ride there.

Good luck.

Oh - I forgot to say I’m sorry for the diet! Must be tough.

Could be worse. If you had a particular deformity the thread title might be I’m hung so freaky.
