I'm taking a Glock to NYC. What can I expect?

No one has followed up on this post and it seems pretty crucial to the OP’s point. Are the NYC subways counted as state government property and do they forbid concealed carry under the exemptions to H218 in NYC? What about Taxi’s? Buses? Hire cars?

I would think in a city as crowded as NYC the amount of places that would be banned as either parks, private state property or private business leaves very very few places your HR218 would be valid.

The MTA forbids carry in general but not for a properly equipped LEO:
http://www.mta.info/nyct/rules/rules.htm#weapons
(citing to 21 NYCRR Part 1050 et seq.)

The OP is not a NYC LEO, he’s a LEO from out of town with a federal exemption that can be overruled by local bans on private or state property.

Is he a LEO as the MTA defines if he’s from out of state and on a personal visit?

Did you read the rule? It doesn’t say a single thing in the rule about being licensed by the state of New York, or being a member of a NYS law enforcement agency. It says
"…**to law enforcement personnel and persons to whom a license for such weapon has been duly issued and is in force **(provided in the latter case the weapon is concealed from view). "

Usually the general rule is private businesses must be posted.

Hangunlaws.us could not confirm if no gun signs in New York have any force of law as they do in some other states.

But…these things are not my concern here, right now.

 Jebus Kripes! All the OP is asking is if I’m going to get confronted at the airport in NYC. I didn’t expect many would know the answer but the rest of this digression is ridiculous

Actually, you asked five different questions in the OP, some of them very general. I’m not sure why you expected a simple answer.

Rather than contribute to the hijacking of this thread, I started a pit thread:

pk, have you tried The High Road gun forums?

Colibri’s on the ball here, but the overall tone on The High Road comes with much, much less “WTF???”-factor where firearms are concerned, as should be expected of an internet forum devoted exclusively to firearms and 2nd. Ad. legal activism.

Since your question involves flying, you might give it a shot over at flyertalk.com. Try the Travel Safety forum or maybe the forum specific to the airline you’re using.

Didn’t a football player just spend two years in jail for possession of a firearm in NYC?

IIRC his sentence was reduced from the mandatory three year term for possession. Good lawyers I presume.

That was an unlicensed firearm. As mentioned above, pkbites is fully licensed to carry in NY due to federal law. Plaxico Burress also discharged his gun in a crowded building and shot himself in the process.

Based on the complete lack of what I consider solid answers, I’m suggesting that you call the law enforcement authority having primary jurisdiction at the airport in question.
This looks like a DoperFail today.

Not that I’ve visited every single business in NYC (or even close to every business), but I’ve lived around here all my life (except for 4 years in the USAF) and I’ve never seen such a sign. For the most part, carrying a weapon in NY if you are not LEO is illegal, so businesses don’t need a sign. Those carrying are already breaking the law and would ignore the sign just as readily, and those obeying the law aren’t carrying.

From your own link:

Airport Carry:
No Laws found. NYC is known to arrest anyone with a firearm traveling through the New York Airports. Even trying to board an airplane with a properly cased and declared firearm can get you arrested. See “Letter” from the United States Attorney General on the application of United States Code Title 18 - Part I - Chapter 44 § 926A. on the Interstate transportation of firearms. This should be straightened out but never forget they can arrest you any time and give you your day in court.

Which mean basically that ignorance of the law is no excuse unless one is entrusted with enforcing it. Forgetting rights is not unique to NY law enforcement.

Contrary to popular belief, your penis will not grow in size.

It seems to me that OP/LEO can just call the NYPD and ask them.

The rules are the rules, and the OP knows them. It is how whatever individual he runs into applies the rules (or fails to) that’s the issue. For that, there is no one answer. Having someone at NYPD central tell him it is fine, no problem, you are within the law means nothing when Mr. TSA calls a security shutdown because he is unfamiliar with the regulations. While the OP can provide a copy of the law, be as polite as possible, and comply with whatever TSA requests, it would still be an unnecessary hassle.

anson2995 gave a pretty decent answer in post #9. Since he is a cop (I assume hw will carry his credentials) and has a right to carry his weapon, I doubt he’ll get that much hassle. How unnecessary it is would be for pkbites to decide.
