I'm the personification of 'More money than sense'

In the past few days I signed up for finance on another alienware laptop. This one has an AMD Turion 2.4Ghz 64 Bit processor, 1GB of Memory, 60GB hard disk. Dual (SLI) Nvidia 7900 graphics.

My current is a Pentium 4 3GHz with (also) 1 GB of RAM, 160GB hard disk (a recent upgrade) Geforce GO 5700.

The thing I find confusing is after three years the maximum processor speed seems to have dropped from 3.4 to 2.4. I know I’m being naive somehow. Can anyone either explain how, or point me to an online source which explans how an AMD Turion running Windows XP professional is much better than a Pentium 4 (HT) running XP home

Failing that I will be able to run various benchtests (such as a Truespace Render) on both laptops at the same time.

On other processor lines, AMD would name them like “Athlon 64 X2 4600+ (64-bit, 2.4GHz” - the 2.4 GHz is the clock speed, but the 4600+ refers to its performance relative to a Pentium, in this case, the idea is that it’s roughly equivalent to a 4.6 GHz Pentium.

They don’t seem to be doing this in the Turion line, but it’s reasonable to assume that the performance will be along the lines of the 4600+ Athlon, given the same clock.

And… guessing you popped for an Aurora mALX? You need professional help.
