I'm thinking about trying out Scientology. What's your experience with the org?

Any religion that relies on blackmail and lawyering up clearly cannot hack it in the theology department.

Scientology, easy to get into hard to get out of and that’s the definition of a trap.

Makes me wonder if Dad happened to bump into a Scientologist back in the 60s.

He was over in London working while the banks in Ireland were on strike and living (and drinking) with his brother. One night in the pub he struck up conversation with a man who spoke a lot about religion and somehow he happened to get Dad’s address. Dad then got letter after letter asking if he’d care to come along to some sort of a meeting, all carefully handwritten and at length. Maybe it was some other nutjob, but it makes me wonder.

Add deception to that list. In my area they buy space at flea markets and suck people in with some kind of relaxation theme. They don’t put up signs announcing themselves as scientologists but rather they ask passerby’s if they need to relax or some other stress related bullshit. The only give-away are the books in the background. Basically they’re praying on the emotionally weak with a cover story of help. It’s really sad to watch.

Always check your mailbox for rattlesnakes.

They did this after 9/11 too. Set up booths at functions to raise money for the victims and told people the other counsellors couldn’t help them and only their counsellors could. I had zero respect for the group before then, but now I actually hate them and consider them evil.

They did it at Ground Zero, during/post the disaster.

That’s because you don’t know the history of counselling, I do.

Why has the US Government allowed these creeps to function? They make preposterous claims for their religion-like being "clear’ makes you a genius! They push a brand of psychoanalysis (“Dianetics”) which is provably false. So why are they allowed to keep pushing this crap on people? Seems (to me) that $cientology poses a major danger to the public-why is it allowed to continue?

We allow “faith healers” and “snake handlers”, Scientology is only a little more crazy than that.

Because it’s a religion. They decided to become one for tax and legal reasons. They infiltrated the IRS, in what is said to be the largest case of domestic esionage ever, when they were lobbying for tax-exempt status for the church. I believe it’s been alleged that they investigated the private lives of IRS officials as well, in order to blackmail them. I don’t know if it’s clear how mmuch influence this had, since they didn’t get the status until 1993 while some of the infiltration was in the late 70s.

What do you mean by this?

Did you hate them long before 9/11?

Do you think Annie-Xmas is wrong to hate them?

Something else?

Jim

It was a Tom Cruise joke.

Don’t be glib.

You’re being glib!

Cervaise,Cervaise,Cervaise,Cervaise,Cervaise,Cervaise…

You make a claim that is demonstrably false, and I am the one blowing smoke. Interesting.

Kabbalah is not an organization. The Kabbalah Centre is an organization that is interested in Kabbalah. Just like Philosophy isn’t an organization, but there are numerous organizations dedicated to its study, many of whom have the word ‘Philosophy’ in their brand identity.

When High School Dropout Scientologist was speaking on Oprah about Princeton Graduate & New Mother Brooke Shield’s taking Prescribed Medication for her Post-Partum Depression, he stated “She doesn’t know the history of psychiatry. I know the history of psychiatry.”

Thank you. I had no clue of the quote.

I think you are confusing two things. I think the quote comes from his Today Show interview.

I may be wrong, I’m full of Thetans today.
