I'm thinking of booking a holiday online...

…to take advantage of the lower prices. I’m in the UK and just want a weeks break in the sun in early September. Greece Islands, the Balearics or the Canaries, I’m not that bothered.

We’ve always booked through a travel agent in the past. Does anyone have good/bad experiences of booking online or any links to holiday website they would like to share?

Come on guys. The clock is ticking. September isn’t that far away, considering how long it takes Mrs Legion to pack!

I live in NYC, and a buddy of mine and I did a trip to Miami. Flight (Continental), hotel, car rental. Total? USD300.00 each.

I booked my flight (American) to London online three weeks in advance. USD310.00 round trip. Ryanair overnight trip to Dublin? GBP110 round-trip.

NYC to Buffalo (JetBlue) on-line, two weeks in advance. USD60.00 or so one-way.

My advice is to check your airline of choice’s website before sidestep.com, then expedia.com, then travelocity.com. Airline websites likely have the best deals, since they’re fighting the bulk sites to keep the business in-house. But check around, because deals can be found. Sometimes I just get a hankerin’ to go somewhere, and I bounce around websites to see what’s in my price range.

A little diligence, and you can find a decent deal. I’ve never had a problem booking on-line.

I agree with Happy Scrappy Hero Pup, look into airline web sites. Often they will ask you to register for web alerts. These are special discounts only offered through the web. At least check the prices for your trip. It doesn’t hurt to have some idea what it will cost, before you go to a travel agent.

I’ve had two trips totally (well, almost totally) screwed up. Both were done by travel agents.

I get good results by the same methods mentioned previously – I like travelocity.com but also check the specific airlines’ sites. Best prices are usually for mid-week travel. You can “play around” with the dates to see what works. Expedia and travelocity also have features that will let you search for the best price if you are flexible on the dates.
