I'm too old to be driven insane by Angry Birds! Help!

Yeah, so far so good…but I did a level today where I launched a bird and it split into 3 – kind of a MIRV-bird. And I wondered WTF did that come from, and why doesn’t it happen all the time? The level started with a drawing that depicted something of this sort…but I’m still not sure what happened.

A few tips:

  • Sometimes an all-out frontal assault is better than overthinking.

  • Lobbing birds over the top and dropping them in from a high angle can be very effective when a frontal assault isn’t working.

  • The white birds can be extra effective if you aim low enough that he’ll still hit the structure after dropping the egg.

  • Many of the levels feature structures with one fatal (but not always obvious) weakness. Find that spot for devastating effect.

Hmm. When a new type of bird is available there should be a demonstrative picture of what it does, but I’ll break it down for you.

Red bird: your basic bird. No frills, just blunt force.

Blue bird: after launching, tap screen (or trackpad/mouse button) anywhere and it will split into three.

Yellow bird: speeds up really fast when you tap.

White bird: drops an explosive egg when you tap, then flies off at a high angle.

Black bird: explodes when you tap, or a few seconds after impacting something.

Green bird: boomerangs when you tap.

In later levels there’s what I call the Redzilla, which is just a giant red bird that does a ton of damage.

You can tap the screen while that bird is in the air to make it split into 3. Similarly, you can make the yellow bird speed up by tapping the screen while it is in flight.

ETA: DcnDc said it, and covered the other birds, too.

Yes, you tap (click?) for the special ability. Red ones do nothing special, white ones will drop an egg, yellow ones will go really fast, blue ones split into 3 and are good for ice blocks, black ones will blow up although they will do that on their own after a few seconds.

Thanks! Obviously, the demonstrative picture was a bit too subtle for me. I must’ve inadvertently tapped my trackpad, and had no idea I was controlling the bird (or that the color of the bird was significant in any way.)

A few other tips regarding the birds.

Red birds are best for destroying wooden blocks, yellow birds (after tapping) are extra effective.

Blue birds shatter glass bricks the easiest. And sometimes it’s better to wait until just before the impact to split them.

Black (bomb) birds smash through stone bricks the best. and 99% of them it’s better to let them blow up on their own, then tapping them.

 I didn’t realise that tapping the screen changed things, hahhaha. No wonder I’ve been struggling

And sometimes it’s best to drop the white bird’s bomb right next to what you are aiming for because the collateral damage can kill pigs inside.

Die, pigs, die!!!
