I'm using IE6 right now, should I get IE7, or switch to Firefox?

Apparently, I’m among the few here who really don’t like firefox.
It takes forever to launch, it’s constantly “updating,” it hogs resources, it crashes frequently, it’s cumbersome to use, and a lot of sites don’t work right on firefox because it doesn’t have a high enough market share for them to have fixed their not quite correct design (which displays and works correctly on IE6 & 7).

Stay with 6 for now.

IE6 is a freaking pig. No doubt about it.

I’ve been using FF2 for a while now and I must confess it’s not worth all the hype. It’s certainly good, but it’s not flawless. It’s a resource hog and it’s got more freezing and crashing issues than IE7 does. Of course the criticism of IE7s totally baffling layout (why would you move the damn menu bar, seriously?) is spot on. Granted you can fix all of this with a little tinkering and once that’s done IE7 is pretty much an exact copy of FF2 except better integrated into Windows. Granted that integration is certainly as much a positive as a negative for what it’s worth. A few of FF2s plug-ins are really handy, I’m a fan of IEtab and ForecastFox especially.

My advice, if you’re a relatively casual user, is to just upgrade to IE7. The flexibility of Firefox is great but I think many people will find the tinkering more of a annoyance than a boon. The first thing you do after upgrading IE7 is to move that damn menu bar to the top where it belongs.

If I do decide to switch to IE7, I’m sure I’ll add one or more of the addons listed here.
