90% of the visitors to my website use Firefox. This surprised the hell out of me. Clearly the adware/spyware/malwae problem is getting people to sit up and take notice.
So, a simple question (and please, try not to derail the thread with insults/attacks on people’s choices!):
The breakdown of visiting browsers varies a lot, depending on the website. I’m guessing yours is the kind which will have mainly techie-savvy people using it. Mine, which certainly isn’t aimed at that kind of user, still has 90% of visits from people using IE6. And this month, there’s been a whopping total of Linux-based visitors - two. One of which was me.
Firefox all the way, baby. I can’t beleive that anyone who knows about the browsing alternatives out there (including Firefox, Opera, and I guess Netscape, if we are to believe fishbicycle (personally, I’m inclined not to )) can still use IE. Everyoen I have talked to who tried Firefox has liked it, if not at first, then eventually. And the only reason for initial hatred was just unfamiliarity, and not using it to its potential (like getting even more ad and pop up blocking protection, full usage of tabs, etc…)
So to the IE users out there…why? What, in your expereince, makes IE better than Firefox?
That’s the thing - the subject matter is not at all “tech savvy”, it’s about Idols. I mean, how much more mainstream do you get? That’s why I was completely shocked at the inordinately high number of Firefox users.
Safari at home, Firefox at work. IE should die a sudden and violent death to spare us all from its plethora of security bugs and standards-mangling rendering engine.
I tried it for a while, but I need my Google toolbar, which isn’t updated yet (last I checked). As soon as that’s there, I’ll go back to it. I love how you can drag and drop folders!
(I’d complain, but a friend in another department reports that they just upgraded to Windows 95, so I’m not confident in the tech-savvy-ness of this place …)
Portable Firefox at work, run from a USB drive, since FF was “disappeared” a few times overnight from my work computer. (Are you listening, Barrytown?)
Safari at home. Firefox just doesn’t quite feel right. Though if I ever get around to playing with extensions (whcih are available for Safari, too), I may just discover some features I never knew I needed. But until then (and until I get DSL/cable), Safari works best for me.
