I’ll add to that: BMW cars and motorcycles. And one that hasn’t been mentioned yet: blue jeans.
Car Satnavs and handheld GPS units for hiking.
Jesus, my eyes! You need to warn a person, not just throw out a link like it’s nothing…fuck…
Farmville isn’t a video game. It’s a moving advertisement with cows.
I think it’s a relative thing; In-N-Out are definitely better than say… McDonald’s in most people’s view (although they sell a LOT of burgers, so who knows), but there are a lot of just as good or better fast food burger alternatives around- in my neck of the woods, it’s Whataburger that’s better.
That being said, In-N-Out does make a excellent fast food burger- I can’t deny that.
The hype I don’t get is Five Guys. They’re in kind of a no-man’s-land of counter-service burgers that are marginally better than the In-N-Outs and Whataburgers of the world, but they don’t even stack up to other examples in their category like Smashburger or any number of local burger joints everywhere. They’re average at best, I think.
The book. Beats scrolls etc. all hollow when it comes to reading. Beautifully designed, and, if you buy used or check out for free, wonderfully inexpensive.
Public libraries. They’re not all perfect, but they make life much richer for millions (and have for a long, long time).
I don’t like chocolate, but I know I’m in a very small minority there.
However, I did read and loved the Harry Potter books and the Hunger Games books too.

That’s true - Celine Dion has an amazing voice, and she sings drek with it. Oh well.
I do love my local library - for $12 a year, I get access to an incredibly long list of excellent books, dvds, cds, etc.
IPods is a good one. Us old folks remember when you couldn’t just listen to your favourite song over and over (unless you bought the album), or have a thousand of your favourite songs in your pocket, available at any time. We remember sitting by the radio, waiting for your favourite song to come on, and maybe you would try to record it so you wouldn’t have to buy it, and if you did buy the album, you usually got two or three good songs and seven songs that could charitably be called “filler.” Kids these days. ![]()
I don’t know how you get “doesn’t really suck” out of that.
That’s the thing about a great natural gift: it becomes undeniable that your work reflects your own depth, character, and taste.
Suck, by definition, is hideously cheesy, awful, and repellent.
Farmville was plenty of fun for me for a while. And I’m quite a serious video game fanatic. Never got into buying stuff for it though.
Celine Dion is great, bordering on timeless. Hating her is popular though, so carry on.
Kinda like a large chunk of The Beatles’ songs.
Fifty Shades of Grey.
What? Harry Potter and Apple products have been mentioned, so…
McDonald’s french fries.
If Celine Dion would sing a good song, maybe I’d remember it. I know she sings well, but the only image I have of her is her Fabio imitation in that Titanic song video. I have heard the song many times, but for the life of me, I can’t remember how it or any other of her songs go. I remember hearing another song of hers and thinking it was Amy Grant, but that’s all I remember about that. Celine simply does not sing catchy or memorable songs.
Tabasco Sauce! It’s the only food I can think of where the popular, ubiquitous version stands up in quality to any locally crafted version.
Sriracha sauce…
Someone was raving about it someplace in the net. So, I got some and…Oooo that really goes well in ramen noodles.
Oh yea, it was this place… http://theoatmeal.com/
