In my sculpture class, our first assignment was to select a pair of words from a list and create a sculpture in clay based on our interpretation of them, and then paint it once it was fired in the kiln. I chose “anxiety/inertness” and made this sculpture showing a cat who has accidentally killed a mouse who he had been (in his intentions) innocently playing with as his little buddy. He is sitting next to a hollow log, in which hide some other mice. [Note: I’m not done painting it yet. The wood especially is not finished.]
The second assignment was to create a piece that responds in some way to the first piece. So I made this piece Friend or Foe which shows a kitten hiding in a hollow stump from a big rat who is sitting on top, peering down. The rat is curious, the kitten is scared.
Anyway, I need to paint this now and I figured it might be more fun to make the rat’s coloration look like a specific rat, rather than just painting from my head or based on some random Google image. So if you’ve got a pet rat you think is cute/pretty/interestingly colored, post a pic! (Make sure you also say what the rat’s name is!)
