Impending US Civil War?

Yes, while not suggesting that *all *Norse neopagans have a White Nationalist agenda, for those that do it isn’t hard work to join the dots with the Thule Society and Aryanism.

That’s how the Iraq war was sold to the American public. Remember the often heard quote, “the smoking gun could be a mushroom cloud”?

That said, I’ll concede the point, although I maintain that a person who suggested in January 2003 that Bush might bomb Iraq was no more crazy than a person who suggested he’d occupy it.

I agree, but they’d be more likely to stick together than support civilians, don’t you think?

In movies, whenever aliens attack it seems like the military is up and running within minutes. You’d think there’d be a slight lag while everybody empties out their shorts over the fact that aliens are attacking. That must mean that the military is trained and prepared for the eventuality of an alien attack within various scenarios.

So, naturally, the same would be true of civil wars and public unrests and hijacked airliners being flown toward skyscrape–oh

I would like to praise Apollyon for post #29. We could have argued forever about where The European Union Times was published. Apollyon did exactly the right thing, which was to look up who the domain was registered to. Furthermore, Apollyon then looked on Twitter to find more information about this person. That kind of research wouldn’t have occurred to me. That’s the sort of research that ought to be happening more often on the SDMB instead of endless pointless arguments.

So would sending the military against Undead-Americans count as a Civil War? Remember the dead are a significant portion of our population!

And I second the approval of Apollyon’s research. Hard info is always welcome.

I love the comments on the web pages:

I didn’t realize that… please explain?

I vote the not-Democrat party … seems to me the GOP’s biggest problems arise when they abandon conservative principals.

The GOP hasn’t managed to govern according to conservative principles in 50-odd years. One wonders when they might be said to have abandoned them if they never really cared about them in the first place.

sniff Thank you guys.

I still remember the day Kennedy was shot. We weren’t all that primitive. From my memory, we weren’t any more violence prone either, not on the individual level at least. As I remember it, people were shocked that such things could still happen.

We weren’t wearing furs and fighting cave bears, you know.

White nationalist, pretending to worship Norse gods.

That tells me all I need to know. A nazi.

And no, I’m not Godwinizing, that’s what she is.

I’m basing that opinion on what seem to be pretty solid sources:

The Death of Conservatism, by Sam Tanenhaus; Newsweek interview here; GD thread here.

The Pew Political Typology. Put all the conservative typology groups together and you still don’t have a majority.

2007 study by the Pew Research Center showing a changed political environment more favorable to the Dems/liberals/left.

2009 study by the Center for American Progress. This last one is very telling:
