i live in ontario canada and want to buy a used big dog motorcycle from the states and bring it home but is not on the list of vehicles allowed into canada ,i see all types of choppers around here that arnt on the approved list so how do they get them registered in canada ,also big dog has a dealership in quebec selling them new but are to much to buy new but how can they sell them here but not be allowed to bring into the country, im just wondering about how i can get around it ,thanks for any replies:)
I think you can bring it in as a parts vehicle and then re register it as homemade or custom, I am not entirely sure of the legalities surrounding this but I know it has been done here in NS. I have a friend who brings in bikes from the states and I will ask him how he gets around that stuff the next time I see him.
excellent thanks ,let me know the details
Not very useful, but I was at a car show in Calgary last year and they had an OCC bike there. The dude in charge said he had to roll it in because he couldn’t get permits to drive it in Canada. He said it’s a real pain.
I’m curious. Is this an issue with the air emissions (smog) from the choppers? Or an issue with loud sound from their straight pipes?
There are, of course, different safety standards in Canada. That’s a possibility.
i havent herd of any probs with emissions all ive herd that they ask you to change is the way the blinkers are set up and change all gauges to metric ,no probs with pipes or anything
We had an OCC chopper here last year as a prize in a draw for our local bike rally, so it can’t be that big of a deal and if I am not mistaken there is an OCC dealer in Canada.
thats what i dont understand theres a big dog dealer in quebec yet they are not on the list of appoved bikes allowed into canada
I have been pretty busy the last 2 days and have not seen the guy who brings in the bikes but I will ask as soon as I see him.
any more answers
Sorry, I have been so busy with reno’s that I have not had a chance to talk to him. I will make it a point to get in touch with him this week.
