Importing sounds into finale, or another program?

I know there’s quite a few music types on here, I’m hoping someone can help me!

I want to get back into composing, and I don’t have the desire to buy any more new software, or learn how to use any, either. I have a few decent microphones, Finale 2008, audacity, and GarageBand on my Mac and iPad.

I like the interface for Finale, especially since I had to grasp a fair level of proficiency in it for my orchestration, counterpoint, and medieval music courses. But I’m not making sheet music; I want to use it as a MIDI sequencer, but I don’t want to be limited by the Garritan orchestra. I want to import a bunch of electronic, synthesizer sounds. OR…

Would it be easier to take the finale files, export them to MIDI, and put them into something else that gives them different timbres? If so, what is such a program called, how hard are they to learn, and are they expensive?

Thanks to anyone who can help me out or point me in the right direction!
