Impressive CG Art

I’m not sure if its acceptable to post this or not but I stumbled across this website and I just had to share it!

Apologies Moderators if I’m causing problems.

I think the mods will only have a problem if your only reason for creating an sdmb account was to post this link. If that isn’t the case then it’s probably fine (but IANA Mod)

I’ve been a huge fan of CG for as long as I can remember… I remember as a kid being utterly fascinated by the early CG stuff on (and I could be remembering this wrong) a programme called ‘claymation’ Pixar’s first stuff was on there. I remember their CG of a baby’s bedroom with all it’s toys and stuff. It was very much like the setting for Toy Story. And if my memory serves it will stand up well even to today’s CG.

The reason CGTalk is the best forum for CG art is because it’s where the professionals hang out. These are the people who have done work on the large scale productions like Pirates of the Caribbean, Halo, Battlestar Galactica, and Hellboy (movies, TV, video games, etc), and they’re showing off the stuff they do for fun at home.

That was “Tin Toy”. It was actually their third, after “The Adventures of Andre and Wally B” and “Red’s Dream”.

John Lasseter (I’m not sure if the early stuff should be attributed to “Pixar”, since I’m not sure they called it that yet) had lots of extremely short films before “The Adventures of Andre and Wally B” that were shown at computer animation festivals. Things like “Beach Chair” (In COLOR!) or “The Adventures of ___ the Worm” showcased their growing capabilities with computer animation and the dynamics of moving bodies. The run time of these bits were measured in seconds, and the plots were less than minimal (A Beach Chair “walks” up to the water at the beach and gingerly dips its front runner “toes” in, then backs away.

Heck, you forgot “Luxo, Jr”., which preceded Red’s Dream (and maybe The Adventures of Andre – I;'m not quite sure) and is the studio mascot.
“Claymation”, by the way, has nothing to do with computer animation, and it’s not a generic term. It’s a trademark of Will Vinton’s studio, and it’s a shame you don’t see his group’s plasticine goodness anymore. I really liked their short subjects, and The Adventures of Mark Twain.

Andre and Wally B was before Pixar (they were Lucasfilm something something back then), and therefore it was before Luxo Jr, because that was after they became Pixar.

I’m actually a member of CG society and have several pieces published throughout the site. but only one image posted under my portfolio.

There are indeed many highly talented individuals on those boards, and if you’re looking for an example of some of the best 3D art in the world, the Showcase Gallery in CGForums is the place to look.

I have been working in the realm of 3D modeling, texturing and lighting/rendering for a few years now, but I am constantly amazed and inspired by the things I see there.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a sudden hankering to grab my Wacom tablet and knock out some 3D work. After looking at a few of those images again, I’m itching to push some points.

Thanks for the link.
