In 1970 why did so many parents think......

…their color television was screwed up?

Heres a (sort of) clue:

was 1970 the 1st time “wizard of oz” was aired on tv? (I would have guessed earlier, but I can’t recall).
I’m guessing the b/w footage confused some folks.

No I remember Oz on TV in the 60’s…

I guess it has something to do with Sesame Street, but I can’t figure out what it would be.

No, I remember Oz on TV in the '50’s…

God, I’m old. :frowning:

–That makes two of us. I remember it’s first appearance was introduced by Danny Kaye who warned that the first two reels were in black and white, so don’t be startled.
Since the year was 1956 (I think) the WHOLE MOVIE was in black and white to all but maybe 100 people.

Didn’t they switch Oscar from orange to green then?

Before my time, but throwing that guess out anyway.

Because they saw black, white, Latino and Asian children on the same set at the same time, on Sesame Street.

What’s you obsession with Sesame Street, Hayduke?

That’s the answer!

Before my time too, but my dad told me how he remembers the day the second season premiered and Oscar was green instead of orange. My aunt (dads younger sister) had my grandpa going nuts trying to adjust the color on the t.v. set. I guess he wasn’t the only one as people across the country were taken aback by this. Strange, huh?

Is there, like, a point to this thread?
