Not so much in Houston.
Yes! Little Eden shopping center at 7-Corners, Falls Church, Va. And they are only $2.50. The traditional banh mi (which I learned watching Luke’s Vietnam) is made with pate (the French influence).
As mentioned above the white vedge is daikon radish which together with carrot is pickled. It is call Do Chua.
3 bucks?!?!? I don’t recall ever paying less than $6 for one. Maybe it’s the size. Do you eat more than one? The ones I get are pretty filling, so I only need one (and I’m a big eater at lunch).
Where are talking about? The going rate in L.A. and San Diego is $3 to $5, typically in Vietnamese communities. I find that one sandwich is enough for a light lunch. Two would be too much.
Here is one place. But I think it’s just NY prices, because I checked several.

I guess I just figured that a $3 sandwich must be White Castle-sized.
I wish they were readily available 'round these parts You can only get them on Saturdays at a stand in the Strip district.
Funny, was craving a crunchy french roll sandwich so decided to have banh mi for lunch on Saturday. Tried Saigon Deli, which is in north Tampa (off of Waters just east of Dale Mabry, for any locals that might care). The roll was perfect and everything else was very good. I think it was $2.99 each. I got three that Mrs Shibb and I split up over lunch plus a bit later. One was probably enough for one reasonable person, so of course we ate more than that.
In the TB area St Pete is actually more known for it’s Vietnamese, although the area noted above has a number of restaurants, cafes and other Viet businesses.
I work in El Segundo and stay at a hotel near the airport during the week and just learned that my “go to” Vietnamese dive restaurant has suddenly become a Pakistani place. Look forward to any food recommendations in the area.
The ones at Boston Bakery & Cafe (where I get mine) in Orlando are about 8 inches long. I wouldn’t call them particularly filling.
At Banh Mi Che Cali in Garden Grove, a good size banh mi is $2.50.
Huh. We have a Banh Mi Che Cali across the street from us in Alhambra, and I never knew it was a chain.
I don’t like the Banh Mi there, though. Actually, although I’ve found some excellent Pho, I haven’t found a Banh Mi that knocks me over yet in the San Gabriel Valley.
