"In Bruges"

I think the Dope is drunk again. It has the hiccups.

Gleeson is very good in The Guard. It’s an odd character and he plays it well. I’ve always liked Don Cheadle too, and he also does a good job.

Thanks for the heads up, didn’t realise it was out this month.

I retract that bit about your cunt fucking kids.

Gleeson is probably my favourite actor. He’s got a great range and really puts his all into most roles he plays. I Went Downis another classic he starred in.

Amazon has it streaming.

ETA: Never mind. They don’t. I am almost certain they did just a few months ago though!

They did a couple of months ago; I rented it from iTunes then. I wonder what’s up, since Frylock thinks that Amazon also had it previously, but doesn’t any longer, either.

Fookin’ Bruges.

Two manky hookers and a racist dwarf…I’m heading home.

On the DVD, one of the extras was a series of outtakes of the various characters saying that line. It goes on so long that it stops being funny and then continues until it is funny again.

Either that or I’m just sick and twisted.

Conveniently, it’s also available on youtube.

Fuckin’ Bruges.

I watched The Guard last night. I liked it a lot. It was slow getting started but it got better and better. The Gleeson character was very interesting. At first he just seems to be kind of a shallow goofball, but his character reveals depth as the plot moves along. LOVED the ending.

I tried watching it last weekend and couldn’t really get into it. A lot of it was I had a difficult time understanding the dialogue.

I’ll probably try watching it again at some point, seeing as some of it was pretty funny.

Put the captions on! I always have them on.

The film is very slow to get started, but I think it’s worth it.

Delicatessen is another good dark comedy. The story happens in a grim, post-apocalyptic future where people are forced to resort to cannibalism in order to survive.

Two lines from the movie have passed from the screen into almost everyday usage in our house, in many different situations, as both excuse and abuse-

“Sure, I can barely do English” (useful for explaining lack of other languages when abroad, or indeed any slip of the tongue)

And the classic non-PC reposte;
“Quit wingeing like a big, gay baby” (for when anyone complains about anything)

Bumped the thread because its an amazing film and I just noticed these deleted scenes are now on Youtube if you never bought the DVD

Hope they make it all back in to the movie when (if) there is a director’s cut. They added much!

Deleted scenes from movies IMHO seem to be the crap that can be done without, but these scenes in the main would have added to the warmer human side of Ray.

Some of the scenes would have maybe made the movie a bit more simplistic by “explaining” too much background and the ambiguity in the original screenplay is compulsive, but the continuing superb dialogue shouldn’t be missed.

Its worth it for that alone.

Totally loved the film to death.

I can say no more.

I saw “Seven Psychopaths” this weekend - not as good as “In Bruges”, but definitely entertaining and very original. Very violent, in case you can’t tell from the name.

Thanks to everyone who recommended The Guard in this thread. Watched it this evening, and it was well worth seeing.

Same here. I got it on Netflix a few weeks ago, and it was great.
