"In Bruges"

I’m so glad to hear you all like The Guard! Like interface2x, I also recommend Seven Psychopaths. Not quite on the same level as In Bruges, but still a lot of fun. These two brothers are on my “I’ll see anything they make!” list.

It won’t come up when I search for it - what gives?

Does your search only show what streams?

If ever an opportunity to see the play The Lieutenant of Inishmore presents itself, don’t pass it up. It’s by the same writer and is just about the most disgusting, hilarious thing you will ever see on stage.

Apparently so. Did you get the DVD?

No…I’ve never seen it.

Redirected.

Another worthy dark comedy is “Heathers”.

“Suicide … don’t do it!”

Yes. I can’t get streaming for most movies here in Panama. (I can only use US mail.)

“I mean, this is Ohio. If you don’t have a brewski in your hand you might as well be wearing a dress.”
One of my favorite movies. I can quote it all day.

Purgatory… It’s like supporting Tottenham…

Don’t I bloody know it…

One Sunday morning a couple of weeks ago I found myself alone while the kids and wife were at church, and I saw that “In Bruges” was playing on HBO. When it originally came out I’d thought the trailers were pretty goofy, but now I thought: what the heck, let’s at least give it a try.

Since then I’ve watched it two more times, and made my wife watch it as well. Why is this movie so entertaining? How did it score 7.9 on IMDb, but only 67 on Metacritic? I generally like critics, but really, 67? For a while at least this may become that movie I tune into any time I see it on.

And the dialogue is like fucking poetry, which is no surprise given that it was written by a playwright:

Harry: Well to be honest it sounds like it’s all your fault.
Eirik: What?
Harry: I mean basically if you’re robbing a man and you’re only carrying blanks and you allow your gun to be taken off you and you allow yourself to be shot in the eye with a blank which I assume that the person has to get quite close to you then, yeah really it’s all your fault for being such a poof, so why don’t you stop wingeing and cheer the fuck up?

71% on Rottentomatoes “top critics,” which does surprise me. I often feel like this is the best movie I’ve ever seen (possibly in competition with the Tristram Shandy film).

Hmmm…you’re reminding me… I loaned out my copy and I need to get it back and watch it again.

It’s on now and I’m watching it again.
Ken: We shall strike a balance between culture and fun.
Ray: Somehow I believe, Ken, that the balance shall tip in the favor of culture, like a big fat fucking retarded fucking black girl on a see-saw opposite…[long, thoughtful pause as he thinks about saying ‘midget’]…a dwarf.

I’m bumping this thread because I saw it again and it’s even better than before.

Probably worth mentioning the new film Calvary for all The Guard fans that chimed in.

I dunno, I own the DVD and I’m not that impressed by it. It’s just an inanimate fucking object.

I saw it and thought it brilliant. Finally talked my wife into it and she thought the same. She thinks I only watch movies with car crashes, but I think after this one, Sling Blade, and Ice Harvest, she’s beginning to think I have some cullchuh.

I’m surprised nobody ever mentioned that 3 years before Bruges, McDonagh won an Oscar for this film–also with Brendan Gleeson, also terrific.
