In Denver for 5 days in Oct - what fun activities/sights do Dopers recommend?

Aack, ya beat me by 10 minutes. Casa Bonita is mindbogglingly awesome in its cheese factor. The South Park kids went there once, and quite correctly describe it as the Disneyland of mexican restaurants.

Try Westword.com for a good idea of what is happening where & when. It’s the local alternative newspaper, available online. Great restaurant reviews and commentary on nightlife. I haven’t lived there in 15 years, so I don’t know how accurate the “nightlife” stuff is (besides, I’m old & cranky, so I wouldn’t anyway) but I visit frequently, and I absolutely lurves the food reviews.

Thanks everyone for those awesome replies. I look forward to spending my not-so-pitiful-lately Canadian dollars in the pursuit of knowledge, art, gluttony, clothing and happiness (in random order), outside of conference hours.

The warning about the safety of the area after dark was also appreciated.

I’m a little late to the thread, and I would have to say you’ve gotten some excellent suggestions so far.

A friend of mine just went to this Brazillian Steakhouse and said it was excellent. It’s down in Lodo, near the Chophouse.

The other thing I will add may sound stupid, but trust me on this one: drink LOTS of water while you are here. Seriously, about two to three times what you normally would. By the time you actually feel thirsty, you are well on your way to dehydrated, and possibly altitude sickness (if you aren’t used to the elevation and arid climate). Every time we have visitors, I give them the same advice. Those who believe me and drink the extra water usually end up feeling fine, while those that don’t feel a bit “off”.
